The Commission for University Education (CUE) established by the Universities Act Cap 210 Laws of Kenya is a state corporation mandated to assure quality of university education, training and research in Kenya. A beacon of excellence in the Kenyan university education landscape, the Commission is steadfastly upholding its mandate to promote, advance, and assure quality university education. To achieve these objectives CUE seeks to recruit dynamic, result-oriented, competent and self-driven individuals for the position listed below:
Responsibilities or duties
The duties and responsibilities will entail: -
- Inspecting library services and facilities of universities and preparation of reports;
- Assessing university libraries self-evaluation reports;
- Designing instruments for inspection of university libraries;
- Preparing quarterly and annual work plans;
- Coordinating the preparation of library inspection reports;
- Coordinating the evaluation of library resources (self-evaluation) reports;
- Providing secretariat services to the Quality Assurance Committee;
- Managing the Library and Information Resource Centre in the Commission;
- Overseeing provision of library and information services to library users;
- Supervising technical services in the Commission Resource Centre, such as classification and cataloguing, indexing and abstracting of acquired information resources;
- Coordinating training and sensitization of CUE library users on information access;
- Overseeing implementation of policies pertaining to the day to day running of the library;
- Coordinating the acquisitions and maintenance of library & information resources;
- Overseeing management and population of CUE digital repository;
- Coordinating the library management system; and
- Overseeing implementation of the library development policy of the Commission.
Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)
For appointment to this grade, an officer must have: -
- Bachelor's Degree in Library and information science or its equivalent from a recognized institution;
- Master's degree in Library and information science or its equivalent from a recognized institution;
- Management course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a recognized institution;
- Membership to a professional body and in good standing;
- Proficiency in computer applications; and
- Fulfill the requirements of Chapter six of the Constitution.
Experience needed
A minimum period of eight (8) years relevant work experience, three (3) years of which must have been in a supervisory role;
