POSITION DESCRIPTION – PRODUCTION OPERATOR

Job title: Production Operator

Reporting to: Senior Production Operator

Job Family: Production Engineering (PE)

Location: Field based position working 28/28

Job Summary

Carry out day-to-day operation and basic maintenance of surface production equipment and wellsite systems to ensure safe, reliable production. Execute routine rounds, monitoring, sampling and basic troubleshooting under supervision, supporting safe and efficient field operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate and monitor production equipment (wellheads, chokes, separators, pumps, flowlines, meters) according to procedures and shift instructions.
  • Perform daily production rounds, record pressures, temperatures and flow rates; complete accurate shift logs and handovers.
  • Conduct routine sampling (fluid, gas, water) and basic field tests, and ensure proper labeling and transfer of samples to labs.
  • Execute start-up and shutdown procedures, pigging and flowback operations as directed; follow isolation and LOTO procedures.
  • Carry out basic preventive maintenance tasks (lubrication, filter changes, visual inspections) and report defects or abnormalities to supervision.
  • Assist with well testing and data capture, coordinating with field engineers and service providers to ensure correct execution.
  • Follow permit-to-work, safe work practices and emergency response procedures; participate in toolbox talks and safety meetings.
  • Handle chemicals and consumables safely, maintain storage and disposal practices per HSE requirements.
  • Support rigdown/rigup, mobilization/demobilization and contractor activities as required.
  • Maintain housekeeping standards and ensure work areas and equipment are clean and safe.

Qualifications

  • Technical certificate/diploma in Mechanical, Petroleum, Process Technology or equivalent; trade qualifications advantageous.
  • 1–5 years’ experience in production operations, plant operations or related field work preferred.

Technical Skills & Knowledge

  • Practical knowledge of surface production equipment and basic process operations.
  • Competence with routine inspections, sampling procedures and basic mechanical tasks.
  • Familiarity with permit-to-work, LOTO and basic process safety principles.
  • Basic computer literacy for data entry and reporting.

Behavioural & Interpersonal Skills

  • Reliable, observant and methodical with strong attention to detail.
  • Good communication skills for clear shift handovers and coordination with team members.
  • Team player with willingness to take direction and learn from senior staff.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and respond appropriately to abnormal situations.

Experience & Conditions

  • Experience in onshore production, plant operations or field roles desirable.
  • Willingness to work rotational shifts in remote camp environments and to undertake physical tasks in varying weather conditions.

Performance Indicators

  • Accuracy and timeliness of production rounds, logs and handovers.
  • Adherence to operating procedures and HSE requirements.
  • Response time and effectiveness in reporting and escalating equipment issues.
  • Contribution to routine maintenance completion and reduction in minor stoppages.
  • Quality of sampling and data provided for production reporting.

Desirable

  • Certifications: First Aid, H2S, Safe Working at Heights, Confined Space, Permit-to-Work.
  • Experience with SCADA, CMMS (e.g., SAP/EAM) or basic instrumentation.
  • Familiarity with basic flow assurance, artificial lift awareness and well testing support.
