Background

The African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC) is a leading pan-African research institution committed to strengthening the capacity of African researchers and institutions to generate evidence that informs policy and practice for sustainable development. APHRC seeks to recruit a Program Accountant.

Responsibilities

The Program Accountant will be responsible for:

  • Managing the financial operations of assigned projects, ensuring compliance with donor regulations and APHRC policies.
  • Preparing and reviewing project budgets, forecasts, and financial reports.
  • Processing payments, reimbursements, and other financial transactions.
  • Maintaining accurate financial records and supporting documentation.
  • Liaising with project teams, donors, and auditors on financial matters.
  • Assisting in the development and implementation of financial policies and procedures.

Qualifications and Experience

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Professional accounting qualification (e.g., CPA, ACCA) is an added advantage.
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience in accounting, preferably in a research or non-profit organization.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP) and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial regulations.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
