The Accounts Assistant will provide essential support to the finance unit by maintaining accurate accounting records, ensuring proper documentation, and facilitating smooth financial operations. The role involves clerical and transactional support, coordination with procurement and administrative teams, and assisting in the preparation of financial reports. The Accounts Assistant will contribute to the integrity and efficiency of INReMP’s financial systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and verify payment vouchers, ensuring completeness of supporting documentation. Record all financial transactions in the cash book and maintain petty cash systems. Process payments to suppliers and service providers in accordance with approved procedures. Prepare bank transfer instructions and cheques for review and authorization. Update accounting records and ledgers regularly to reflect accurate financial positions. Maintain an organized and secure filing system for all financial documents such as vouchers, invoices and receipts. Assist in maintaining and updating the asset register, including tagging and verification.
  • Prepare monthly reconciliations such petty cash, bank statements for review by the Programme Accountant. Follow up on outstanding advances and ensure timely accountability and liquidation. Provide logistical support for finance-related meetings, trainings, and audits. Assist in the preparation of financial reports and documentation for internal and donor review. Liaise with procurement and administrative staff to ensure alignment of financial and operational processes. Perform any other duties as assigned by the Programme Accountant or Financial Controller.
  • Other Duties Undertake any other duties assigned by the NPC

Academic Qualifications/Professional Skills/Expertise:    

  • Academic Qualifications A Diploma in Accounting or a related field from a recognized institution. At least Part II qualification in CPA or equivalent professional certification is an added advantage.

Applicable Professional Experience

  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in accounting roles, preferably within GoK/Development Partner-funded projects. Familiarity with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage, Pastel) and financial systems. Solid understanding of basic accounting principles and procedures. Competencies and Skills Proficiency in MS Office, particularly Excel such data entry, formulas and formatting. Strong organizational and communication skills. High attention to detail, accuracy, and ability to meet deadlines. Integrity, discretion, and commitment to confidentiality
