Role Context

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Project Manager to lead and oversee key projects within our portfolio. The Project Manager will be responsible for the successful planning, execution, and closure of projects, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. This role requires a strategic thinker with strong leadership and communication skills, capable of managing diverse teams and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop comprehensive project plans, including scope, goals, deliverables, timelines, and resource allocation.
  • Manage project execution, monitor progress, and identify and mitigate risks and issues.
  • Lead and motivate project teams, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment.
  • Ensure effective communication and stakeholder management throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Oversee project budgets and financial management.
  • Prepare and present project reports to senior management and clients.
  • Ensure compliance with Sumac's policies and procedures and donor requirements.

Qualifications and Experience

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Development Studies, Public Policy, Business Administration, Social Sciences). A Master's degree is an added advantage.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in project management, preferably within the development sector or consulting.
  • Proven track record of successfully managing complex projects from inception to completion.
  • Strong understanding of project management methodologies (e.g., PMP, PRINCE2) is desirable.
  • Excellent leadership, team management, and interpersonal skills.
  • Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Proficiency in project management software and tools.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. Fluency in other relevant languages is a plus.
  • Experience working in Kenya or the East African region is highly preferred.
