Project Officer – Community Health (Kitui County) at CMMB Kenya
Responsibilities or duties
Program Implementation & Technical Leadership
- Coordinate and implement integrated outreach activities in hard-to-reach areas, including Group ANC and defaulter tracing by Community Health Promoters (CHPs).
- Lead the establishment and operationalization of Primary Health Care (PHC) Advisory Committees and Primary Care Network (PCN) Committees at county level.
- Strengthen governance structures, including Community Health Committees (CHCs) and community autopsy committees.
- Support sub-county and community death review committees to conduct timely maternal and newborn death audits, improving quality of care.
- Coordinate capacity-building initiatives for CHPs, including training, mentorship, and supervision.
- Work with communities and stakeholders to embed sustainability into community health interventions.
- Represent CMMB in MNCH health forums, coordination platforms (including CHU4UHC), Technical Working Groups (TWGs) at county and national levels.
- Collaborate with county and national government stakeholders, partners, and community structures to ensure coherent and effective program delivery.
Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability & Reporting (MEAL)
- Lead routine data collection, verification, and reporting for all program indicators.
- Support implementation of Data Quality Assessments (DQAs) and performance monitoring activities.
- Coordinate ECHIS review meetings to assess performance, identify gaps, and drive course corrections.
- Support dissemination of research findings including ECHIS study results and program evidence to stakeholders.
- Monitor and document the impact of program interventions, including the utilization of bicycles distributed to CHPs and other inputs.
- Lead preparation of monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, and annual project reports in line with donor and organizational requirements.
- Document best practices, innovations, and success stories to promote organizational learning.
- Maintain accurate and complete financial documentation — including expenditures and support documents — in compliance with CMMB and donor requirements.
Stakeholder Engagement & Partnership
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with county and sub-county health management teams.
- Coordinate with NGO partners, community leaders, and government officials to align program activities with national health strategies.
- Represent CMMB with professionalism and credibility in multi-stakeholder forums and county health sector coordination meetings.
Cross-Cutting Responsibilities
- Champion gender equity, social inclusion, and meaningful community participation across all program interventions.
- Ensure safeguarding principles and accountability to affected populations are embedded in all activities.
- Participate actively in planning meetings, program reviews, and organizational learning forums.
- Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor in line with project objectives and CMMB’s mission.
Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)
Qualification and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Community Health, Social Sciences, Nursing, or a closely related health field. A Master’s degree is an added advantage.
- Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in community health, MNCH programming, or public health interventions in Kenya.
- Demonstrated experience working with community health systems, primary health care programs, and county/sub-county health structures.
- Hands-on experience with Kenya’s Community Health Strategy and familiarity with the Community Health Promoter (CHP) model.
- Experience with digital health systems particularly ECHIS (Electronic Community Health Information System) is required.
- Experience working with international NGOs or donor-funded programs is required.
- Deep knowledge of Kenya’s community health system and UHC goals
- Proficiency in ECHIS and digital health data platforms
- Strong MEAL skills including DQA and results reporting
- RMNCH and PHC programming expertise
- Excellent coordination and stakeholder engagement skills
- Strong written and verbal communication
- Ability to work independently and in multidisciplinary teams
