Responsibilities or duties

Designation: Project Officer - Health

Reporting Line: Project Coordinator

Grade Level: 12

Job Location: Wajir and Garissa

Working jointly with the Project Coordinator in Nourish to thrive Project, the Project Officer will support with the project implementation and monitoring of project MNCH interventions and ensure successful implementation of the health interventions aimed at improved MNCH outcomes.

Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)

A minimum of 3 years working experience in Maternal Newborn and Child Health (MNCH) programming.

Previous experience in implementing MNCH Interventions such as BEMONC, IMNCI, MPDSR, CNC, ENC, PQOC.

Demonstrate understanding of key MNCH programming concepts.

Experience working with the devolved system at county and sub county level.

Experience engaging with donors and other stakeholders.

Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing.

Must be registered with the Nursing Council of Kenya and holding a Valid License.

Experience needed

A minimum of 3 years working experience in Maternal Newborn and Child Health (MNCH) programming.

Programmatic and Technical Support

  • Participate/support in the planning, implementation, and monitoring of MNCH activities in accordance with project deliverables.
  • Ensure the development of work plans, budgets for the implementation of health activities.
  • Take lead in the implementation of MNCH interventions as per the workplan.
  • Work with existing MOH structures to ensure integration and alignment of project activities with MOH activities.
  • Represent WVK in county and sub-county maternal and child health technical working groups (TWGs) and other meetings on need basis.
  • Engage with the Ministry of Health County and Sub County Health Management teams to ensure successful implementation of MNCH activities, including sharing of work plans.
  • Ensure integration of nutrition into health interventions for higher impact.
  • Ensure effective integration of project interventions with other WVK Projects in the Program sites.

Design, Monitoring, Evaluation, Reporting and Documentation

  • Utilize Maternal and Child Health, national and county M&E tools and follow-on set targets and timelines of reporting and documentation.
  • Monitor project interventions in strict adherence to WV Kenya, Ministry of Health reporting and other agreed standards.
  • Ensure project data is captured, validated and updated on WVK reporting system and or any other approved World Vison Kenya (WVK) DM&E system.
  • Liaise with national office technical specialists for their technical support to the project design.
  • Provide budget oversight and ensure adherence to approved plans and budgets.
  • Coordinate development and submission of timely and quality reports as per the project and donor requirements.
  • Support documentation of lessons learnt and project success.
  • Gather and provide quality feedback and data to be used to develop technical papers and recommendations on key issues for external engagement with decision makers.

Advocacy, Partnerships, Engagement and Networking

  • Link and engage with the donor, county and sub county to ensure timely consultation and technical support.
  • Work with the Maternal and Child Health networks, MOH for technical direction and leveraging of resources to strengthen the health systems to achieve the Project objectives.
  • Work with other partners implementing Maternal, newborn and Child Health interventions for synergy and achievement of bigger impact and sustainability.
  • Support and attend stakeholder’s forum related to Maternal, Newborn and Child Health interventions.

Capacity Building

  • Participate in support supervisions and data review meetings at sub-county levels as per the work plan.
  • Support health trainings and ensure technical quality of the training delivery.

KNOWLEDGE/QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE ROLE

Required Professional experience

  • A minimum of 3 years working experience in Maternal Newborn and Child Health (MNCH) programming.
  • Previous experience in implementing MNCH Interventions such as BEMONC, IMNCI, MPDSR, CNC, ENC, PQOC.
  • Demonstrate understanding of key MNCH programming concepts.

Preferred Knowledge /Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience of working with Ministries of Health etc and other structures at county level and networking with other partners.
