Overview
Jhpiego Kenya through the HAPPI project is conducting a study to assess the gender-responsiveness of Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) social behavior change (SBC) communication materials in Nandi and Elgeyo Marakwet counties, Kenya. The study aims to evaluate existing materials and content-validate revised, gender-responsive versions through a co-creation process with communities and stakeholders. This involves mixed qualitative methods, including Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) and Content Validation Workshops with diverse participants such as adolescents, parents, community influencers, healthcare workers, and policymakers.
To process the data, the Qualitative Data Analysis Consultant will assist in analyzing and interpreting qualitative data to derive meaningful insights and inform decision-making as well as conduct in-depth analysis and provide expert recommendations based on qualitative research findings.
Responsibilities
The analyst in consultation with the Research and Learning Advisor will be responsible for the following activities:
- Support all monitoring data management and ensure quality transcription process for data collected.
- Develop a thematic codebook for generating themes and sub-themes in line with the objectives of the analysis to respond to site visit purposes. This will involve producing summaries, abstracts, and coding.
- Develop coding notes from the Focus group discussions (FGDs).
- Carry out a detailed analysis of the qualitative data collected using NVivo qualitative analysis tools.
- Develop a qualitative analysis report that includes a description of results in terms of themes and sub-themes, including but not limited to quotations, examining relationships and patterns between categories and themes, discussion of results, and annex for the final codebook.
- Work with the MEL advisor to identify appropriate analytical methods to conduct qualitative data collection and analyses accordingly.
- Coordinate with the MEL advisor and the project lead to ensure timely submission of high-quality deliverables.
The analyst will be accountable for the following deliverables:
- Coding notes from FGDs
- The final codebook
- Qualitative analysis report from FGDs
- Power point presentation on the findings
- Draft manuscript
Master’s degree in development or a related field, such as Health sciences, Evaluation Sciences, or any other discipline relevant to development assistance.
Proficiency in using statistical analysis software packages and qualitative analysis software such as NVivo, Atlas.ti, Dedoose, or MAXQDA for effective data management and analysis.
A minimum of five years of experience in qualitative data analysis, including content analysis, conceptual framework application, codebook development, and coding.
Experience in conducting rapid qualitative analysis, demonstrating the ability to analyze and interpret data within tight timelines.
Proven experience in conducting baseline/mid-term/ end-term evaluations or similar assessments.
Familiarity with the principles and practices of project management, including monitoring and evaluation methodologies.
Strong analytical skills and the ability to present findings in a clear and concise manner.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
Understanding of confidentiality and data security principles, ensuring the protection and appropriate handling of sensitive information.
