Role Overview
The Mid-Level Quality Assurance (QA) Engineer plays a critical role in ensuring product quality across the full software delivery lifecycle. This role goes beyond execution and focuses on test planning, risk identification, improving QA processes, and partnering closely with Engineering and Product to ship stable, scalable solutions.
You will take ownership of quality for specific products or modules, mentor junior QA engineers, and contribute to test automation and continuous improvement initiatives. The systems under test include high-impact platforms in vehicle inspections, extended warranties, insurance integrations, and partner-facing tools.
Key Responsibilities
- Own and execute test plans for assigned products or features.
- Translate product requirements into comprehensive test scenarios, edge cases, and integration scenarios.
- Perform manual, regression, integration, exploratory, and API testing.
- Test REST APIs and backend services, validating business logic and data flows.
- Collaborate with engineers early in the development cycle to identify quality risks.
- Review requirements and designs with a quality, usability, and compliance lens.
- Validate fixes and ensure defects are resolved without regressions.
- Develop and maintain automated test suites using tools like Playwright, Selenium, or Cypress.
- Support release readiness by providing clear quality sign-off and risk assessments.
- Mentor Junior QA Engineers and provide guidance on testing best practices.
- Continuously improve QA processes, documentation, and tooling.
- Contribute to CI/CD pipeline quality checks and automated regression validation.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory and data security standards.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 3–5 years of experience in software quality assurance.
- Strong understanding of Agile/Scrum development methodologies.
- Solid experience in manual testing of complex web and API-driven systems.
- Hands-on experience testing REST APIs (e.g., Postman, Swagger).
- Ability to read and reason out logs, API responses, and backend flows.
- Experience working with bug tracking and test management tools (e.g., Jira).
- Strong analytical skills and proactive, ownership-driven mindset.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally.
Nice to Have
- Experience with test automation frameworks (Playwright, Selenium, Cypress, etc.).
- Working knowledge of SQL and relational databases.
- Experience testing high-availability or transaction-heavy systems.
- Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and quality gates.
- Experience in insurance, automotive, fintech, or regulated environments.
- Understanding security, compliance, and privacy standards (GDPR, data protection, etc.).
Success Metrics
- Releases consistently go out with minimal defects and clear quality visibility.
- Product teams trust QA as a proactive partner, not just a gatekeeper.
- Junior QA engineers are supported and improving under mentorship.
- QA processes are continuously evolving and more efficient.
- Automation coverage and efficiency improvements over time.
- Timely identification of quality risks in new features or integrations.
Shared Values
- Strong ownership and accountability for quality.
- Customer-centric thinking, understanding the real-world impact of defects.
- Bias for clarity, documentation, and communication.
- Willingness to learn, adapt, and continuously improve.
- Collaborative mindset to work seamlessly with Engineering, Product, and partner teams.
