We are seeking a qualified, experienced, and highly motivated Radiographer to join our Radiology Department and support the delivery of accurate, timely, and patient-centred diagnostic imaging services.

Role Summary

The Radiographer will be responsible for performing high-quality diagnostic imaging procedures, ensuring patient safety and comfort, maintaining imaging equipment, and supporting clinicians with accurate diagnostic information. The successful candidate will uphold the highest standards of radiation safety, quality assurance, and professional practice.

Key Responsibilities

Diagnostic Imaging Services

  • Prepare patients and imaging equipment for radiological examinations.
  • Perform diagnostic imaging procedures using:
    • X-ray
    • Ultrasound
    • MRI
    • Other approved medical imaging technologies
  • Deliver high-quality diagnostic imaging while maintaining accuracy in reporting and documentation.
  • Provide emergency imaging services during and outside normal working hours as required.
  • Liaise with Radiologists and clinicians regarding imaging findings to support diagnosis and patient management.
  • Ensure imaging procedures comply with established clinical protocols, taking into consideration patient condition, age, and physical abilities.

Patient Care & Safety

  • Ensure patient safety, dignity, comfort, and confidentiality throughout imaging procedures.
  • Provide appropriate care before, during, and after examinations.
  • Adhere to radiation protection guidelines, ionizing radiation regulations, and infection prevention and control standards.
  • Promote safe imaging practices for patients, staff, and visitors.

Equipment & Quality Assurance

  • Prepare, operate, and maintain radiology equipment to ensure optimal performance.
  • Conduct routine equipment checks and coordinate preventive maintenance.
  • Report equipment faults promptly and support timely repairs.
  • Ensure compliance with departmental quality assurance standards.

Documentation & Administration

  • Maintain accurate patient records, imaging documentation, and departmental registers.
  • Ensure timely billing for all imaging services provided.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient information in accordance with hospital policies.

Professional Collaboration

  • Collaborate with Radiologists, clinicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to facilitate timely diagnosis and treatment.
  • Supervise visiting staff and patients within procedure rooms and radiation-controlled areas.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary clinical meetings and quality improvement initiatives.

Continuous Professional Development

  • Participate in Continuous Medical Education (CME), Continuous Professional Development (CPD), refresher training, and departmental learning activities.
  • Serve on hospital committees, including:
    • Clinical Audit
    • Mortality Review
    • Infection Prevention and Control
    • Waste Management
    • Other clinical quality committees
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the Head of Department or hospital management.

Qualifications

Applicants must possess:

  • Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Radiography or Medical Imaging Sciences from a recognized institution.
  • Valid registration and a current practising licence from the Kenya Nuclear Regulatory Authority (KNRA) and/or the relevant professional regulatory body.
  • Computer literacy with knowledge of Hospital Information Systems (HIS) and Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS) will be an added advantage.

Professional Experience

  • Minimum of four (4) years' continuous experience in a busy Level 4 hospital or above.
  • Demonstrated competence in conventional X-ray imaging.
  • Experience in any of the following will be an added advantage:
    • CT Scan
    • Fluoroscopy
    • Theatre Imaging (C-Arm)
    • Mammography
    • Ultrasound support
  • Good understanding of radiation safety principles and quality assurance standards.
