Responsibilities or duties

Installation of Refrigeration and HVAC Systems

  • Plan and execute the installation of refrigeration units, chillers, air conditioning systems, and associated components in residential, commercial, or industrial settings.
  • Ensure proper sizing, placement, and secure mounting of systems as per technical specifications and manufacturer guidelines.

Routine Inspection and Preventive Maintenance

  • Conduct regular inspections of systems to detect early signs of wear, leaks, corrosion, or other potential issues.
  • Carry out scheduled preventive maintenance tasks such as cleaning filters, checking refrigerant levels, lubricating moving parts, and testing system controls to ensure optimal performance.

Troubleshooting and Diagnostic Analysis

  • Identify and analyze malfunctions in refrigeration and HVAC systems using specialized tools and diagnostic equipment.
  • Interpret error codes, sensor data, and system performance readings to pinpoint the root cause of failures.

Repairs and Component Replacement

  • Replace or repair faulty parts such as compressors, motors, thermostats, fans, solenoids, expansion valves, and electrical wiring.
  • Perform soldering, brazing, or piping work as required to fix leaks or reconnect damaged lines.

System Testing and Calibration

  • Test systems after repair or installation to verify performance, efficiency, and compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Adjust settings and calibrate controls for temperature, airflow, and pressure as per operational requirements.

Emergency Response and Troubleshooting

  • Respond to urgent service calls and system breakdowns to restore functionality with minimal disruption to operations.
  • Maintain readiness for on-call assignments, including after-hours and weekend shifts if required.

Record Keeping and Reporting

  • Maintain detailed service logs, maintenance reports, and repair documentation for compliance and reference.
  • Submit regular updates to supervisors regarding the status of equipment and any major issues encountered.

Compliance and Safety Assurance

  • Follow all local and national safety codes, environmental regulations, and workplace safety standards when handling refrigerants and electrical components.
  • Use personal protective equipment (PPE) and adhere to safe work practices at all times.

Customer and Stakeholder Communication

  • Provide clear updates and recommendations to clients, tenants, or facility managers regarding system condition, potential upgrades, or necessary repairs.
  • Educate users on proper system use and simple maintenance techniques to prolong system life.

Inventory and Tool Management

  • Ensure availability of essential parts and tools by tracking usage and requesting replenishments in advance.
  • Maintain the cleanliness, functionality, and security of tools and diagnostic equipment.

Qualifications or requirements 

Experience needed

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in refrigeration and HVAC systems
  • Must hold a valid HVAC certification from a recognized institution
  • Strong knowledge of refrigeration cycle, components, and safety practices
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and wiring diagrams
  • Good problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Physically fit and able to work in confined spaces or at heights as required
