Role Context
The Regional Finance and Compliance Officer will play a crucial role in ensuring the financial health and compliance of Wetlands International's projects and operations within the East Africa region. This position requires a proactive and detail-oriented individual with a strong understanding of financial management, grant compliance, and internal controls.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the financial management of regional projects, including budgeting, financial reporting, and cash flow management.
- Ensure compliance with donor regulations, organizational policies, and local laws.
- Develop and implement internal control systems to safeguard organizational assets.
- Prepare financial reports for internal management, donors, and other stakeholders.
- Support internal and external audits, ensuring timely resolution of audit findings.
- Provide financial training and capacity building to project staff and partners.
- Monitor financial performance against budgets and provide variance analysis.
- Manage relationships with banks and other financial institutions.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
- Professional accounting qualification (e.g., CPA, ACCA) is an added advantage.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in financial management, preferably within the non-profit sector.
- Proven experience in grant management and compliance with major donor regulations (e.g., USAID, EU).
- Strong knowledge of accounting software and proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a multicultural team.
- Fluency in English is required; knowledge of other relevant languages is a plus.
Work Environment
This position is based in Nairobi, Kenya, and may involve occasional travel within the region.
