Duties and Responsibilities

  • Reports to the Chief Executive Officer Coast General Teaching & Referral Hospital, Chief officers Health Services and will be deployed to perform the following duties:
  • Taking history, examining, diagnosing, ordering laboratory and imaging investigations.
  • Interpreting laboratory and imaging results.
  • Conduct pre-operative evaluations to determine the most suitable anesthetic plans and obtain informed consent from patients.
  • Guiding and counseling patients, clients and staff on health issues.
  • Sensitizing patients and clients on preventive and promotive health.
  • Administer general, regional, or sedation anaesthesia for surgical, emergency, and medical procedures.
  • Keep an inventory of anesthesia medications and supplies, ensuring their timely availability and proper storage.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of all anesthetic procedures, including patient vital signs and administered medications.
  • Provide post-operative care, including pain management and monitoring patient recovery from anesthesia.
  • Organizing health management teams and convening health management committee meetings.
  • Preparing medico-legal briefs on clinical services; and
  • Referring patients and clients to appropriate health facilities.

Requirements for Appointment

  • Be a Kenyan Citizen.
  • Diploma in Clinical Medicine and Surgery from a recognized institution.
  • Higher Diploma in Anaesthesia (Post-basic qualification) from a recognized training institution.
  • Registered and licensed by the Clinical Officers Council of Kenya.
  • Valid BLS (Basic Life Support) and ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification is an added advantage.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ post-qualification experience in anaesthesia practice in a busy hospital setting will be an added advantage.
  • Experience working in a theatre environment with multidisciplinary surgical teams.
  • Certificate in Computer application.

Personal Qualities, skills and competencies in addition to the above requirements;

  • Attention to the detail.
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite, and contemporary practices.
  • Creativity and innovativeness.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and public relations Skills.

  • High levels of Integrity and ethical conduct.
