Duties and Responsibilities
- Reports to the Chief Executive Officer Coast General Teaching & Referral Hospital, Chief officers Health Services and will be deployed to perform the following duties:
- Taking history, examining, diagnosing, ordering laboratory and imaging investigations.
- Interpreting laboratory and imaging results.
- Conduct pre-operative evaluations to determine the most suitable anesthetic plans and obtain informed consent from patients.
- Guiding and counseling patients, clients and staff on health issues.
- Sensitizing patients and clients on preventive and promotive health.
- Administer general, regional, or sedation anaesthesia for surgical, emergency, and medical procedures.
- Keep an inventory of anesthesia medications and supplies, ensuring their timely availability and proper storage.
- Maintain accurate and complete records of all anesthetic procedures, including patient vital signs and administered medications.
- Provide post-operative care, including pain management and monitoring patient recovery from anesthesia.
- Organizing health management teams and convening health management committee meetings.
- Preparing medico-legal briefs on clinical services; and
- Referring patients and clients to appropriate health facilities.
Requirements for Appointment
- Be a Kenyan Citizen.
- Diploma in Clinical Medicine and Surgery from a recognized institution.
- Higher Diploma in Anaesthesia (Post-basic qualification) from a recognized training institution.
- Registered and licensed by the Clinical Officers Council of Kenya.
- Valid BLS (Basic Life Support) and ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification is an added advantage.
- Minimum of 2 years’ post-qualification experience in anaesthesia practice in a busy hospital setting will be an added advantage.
- Experience working in a theatre environment with multidisciplinary surgical teams.
- Certificate in Computer application.
Personal Qualities, skills and competencies in addition to the above requirements;
- Attention to the detail.
- Ability to work under minimal supervision.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite, and contemporary practices.
- Creativity and innovativeness.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and public relations Skills.
- A team player.
- High levels of Integrity and ethical conduct.
