The Renal Nurse at Nanyuki Hospital plays a vital role in providing specialized, compassionate, and high-quality care to patients with kidney disease, especially those undergoing dialysis. The ideal candidate is clinically skilled, patient-centered, and committed to delivering safe, efficient, and effective dialysis services while supporting positive patient outcomes.
- Assess, monitor, and evaluate patients' vital signs, fluid status, medical history, and laboratory results relevant to renal function.
- Prepare, initiate, monitor, and terminate hemodialysis and/or peritoneal dialysis treatments in line with established protocols.
- Manage dialysis access devices (fistulas, grafts, and catheters), ensuring proper care and early identification of complications.
- Respond promptly to dialysis-related complications such as hypotension, bleeding, cramps, clotting, and infections.
- Administer prescribed medications and manage fluid removal and ultrafiltration goals accurately.
- Educate patients and families on dialysis procedures, dietary guidelines, fluid restrictions, and medication adherence.
- Document patient assessments, treatment details, observations, and interventions clearly and accurately.
- Ensure adherence to quality control measures, infection prevention standards, and renal unit safety protocols.
- Collaborate with Medical officers, Physicians, nephrologists, dietitians, pharmacists, and other healthcare personnel to support patient care plans.
- Provide emotional, psychosocial, and professional support to patients throughout their dialysis journey.
- Participate in continuous learning, training, and mentoring of junior staff and trainees.
* Strong clinical skills with solid knowledge of renal physiology and dialysis technologies. * Excellent communication, patient education, and teamwork skills. * High level of accuracy, compassion, ethical standards, and professionalism. * Willingness to work in shifts, including early mornings, evenings, nights, and weekends.
* Higher Diploma in Renal/Nephrology Nursing (Kenya Registered Nephrology Nurse – KRNN) or equivalent. * Valid Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK) registration and current practicing license. * Certification or in-service training in dialysis procedures is an added advantage.
