We are seeking a qualified, experienced, and highly motivated Resident Obstetrician & Gynecologist to join our Clinical Department and provide specialist women's healthcare services.
Role Summary
The Resident Obstetrician & Gynecologist will provide comprehensive specialist obstetric and gynaecological care, ensuring safe, high-quality, and evidence-based clinical services across the continuum of women's reproductive health. The successful candidate will provide clinical leadership, support multidisciplinary teams, mentor junior healthcare professionals, and contribute to quality improvement initiatives within the hospital.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Care
- Provide specialist outpatient and inpatient obstetric and gynaecological services.
- Diagnose and manage normal and high-risk pregnancies.
- Provide comprehensive antenatal, intrapartum, postpartum, and postnatal care.
- Perform elective and emergency obstetric and gynaecological surgical procedures, including:
- Caesarean sections
- Hysterectomies
- Laparotomies
- Laparoscopic procedures (where applicable)
- Other major and minor gynaecological surgeries.
- Manage obstetric and gynaecological emergencies in accordance with national and international clinical guidelines.
- Conduct infertility assessments and provide appropriate treatment or referrals.
- Diagnose and manage benign and malignant gynaecological conditions.
- Interpret ultrasound, laboratory, radiological, and other diagnostic investigations to support patient management.
Clinical Leadership
- Supervise clinical services within the labour ward, maternity unit, operating theatre, and gynaecology wards.
- Participate in multidisciplinary ward rounds, case discussions, and clinical meetings.
- Mentor and supervise Medical Officers, Clinical Officers, Nurses, interns, and other healthcare staff.
- Participate in the hospital's emergency response services and on-call duty roster.
Quality Assurance & Patient Safety
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation, patient records, and medico-legal reports.
- Participate in clinical audits, maternal mortality reviews, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Promote infection prevention and control practices.
- Uphold patient safety standards, ethical medical practice, and professional conduct.
- Participate in Continuing Medical Education (CME) and other professional development activities.
Other Responsibilities
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary healthcare teams to ensure coordinated patient care.
- Perform any other duties assigned by hospital management.
Qualifications
Applicants must possess:
- Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) from a recognized university.
- Master of Medicine (MMed) in Obstetrics and Gynaecology or an equivalent specialist qualification recognized in Kenya.
- Specialist registration and recognition by the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC).
- Valid Annual Practising Licence.
- Fellowship qualification such as COSECSA, RCOG, or an equivalent professional fellowship will be an added advantage.
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics (ALSO) or an equivalent qualification will be an added advantage.
Professional Experience
- Minimum of three (3) years' post-specialization clinical experience in a busy Level 4, Level 5, Level 6 hospital, or an equivalent healthcare institution.
- Demonstrated experience in managing complex obstetric and gynaecological cases, including emergency surgical procedures.
