Responsibilities or duties

The Residential Security Equipment Technician (RSET) ensures residential security hardware, alarm systems, and other security equipment properly installed and functioning for all USG-owned/ leased residential properties in Nairobi. The incumbent will inspect all door contacts, passive infra-red sensors, glass break sensors, panic buttons, and intercom systems to determine functionality prior to an occupant moving in. The incumbent will also perform final quality inspections (before occupancy) of safe-haven door and grillwork installation performed by contractors on Mission residences. In conjunction with the ARSO/RSC, RSETs provides residential security support to Mission personnel pertaining to malfunctioning residential security equipment. Upon request may provide Mission personnel with personal tutorials relating to the functionality of residential alarm systems. Installs alarm components, troubleshoots alarm problems and makes emergency repairs to alarm systems. Determines need for emergency technical services by alarm installation companies. RSETs also oversee the issuance and control of physical hardware at the residences and are responsible for maintaining an adequate inventory of all residential security hardware needed for residential security upgrades.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

(25% of time)

The RSET repairs, installs, and services security alarm systems for all U.S. mission residences in Kenya. Assists the ARSO and RSC with residential security issues such as malfunctioning security systems, grills, locks, and conducting residential security surveys. Assists in the make-ready process and the return of the property back to the landlord including the installation/removal of residential alarm systems as well as video cameras and alarm monitoring equipment in accordance with RSC direction.

(15% of time)

In the future, the RSET may also be responsible for installation and maintenance of alarm transmitters and all equipment pertaining to the installation and maintenance of a Central Alarm Monitoring System (CAMS) in Nairobi. The RSET may oversee CAMS operators and maintain all data in the CAMS software. The RSET will assist the ARSO/RSC in assessing all residences meet updated residential security standards or residences acquired under previous regimes are upgraded to meet existing standards.

Assists the RSC/ARSO with residential security funds, prepares purchase orders for purchasing of security equipment/hardware. Coordinates with alarm, safe-haven door, and grillwork contractors for installations of said residential security upgrades. Following installation of the residential security measures, will conduct a quality inspection to verify all equipment meetings RSO residential security standards.

Will inspect and trouble-shoot (as necessary) all residential security upgrades, to include safe-haven doors, security lighting, and residential alarm systems. Reviews residential security invoices from residential security upgrade contractors. Makes appointments with occupants for visits to residences to identify and repair problems with security equipment and to provide alarm briefings.

(10% of time)

Provides assistance on a 24hr basis to mission employees in the event of technical failure of security equipment caused by various reasons such as lightning storms and electrical problems. Assists in the immediate repair to USG residences that have been victimized by burglary or attempted break-ins. Monitors latest trends in burglary and home invasion. The incumbent will perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

All selected candidates must be able to obtain and hold a: Security certificate; or Public trust security clearance.

Completion of high school is required.
