Background

Our client, a growing group of four franchised restaurants based in Nairobi, is seeking a qualified and hands-on Restaurant Accountant to oversee the full accounting function across the business. This role is well-suited to a proactive accounting professional with hospitality experience who enjoys working in a fast-paced, operational environment. The successful candidate will work closely with restaurant management and supervise a stock controller to ensure strong financial controls, accurate reporting, and full compliance with tax and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the full accounting function for the restaurant group, ensuring accuracy, strong financial controls, and timely reporting
  • Manage supplier accounts, including reconciliations, batch payments, pricing reviews, and VAT withholding compliance
  • Supervise stock control processes, including regular stocktakes, variance investigations, and cost control improvements
  • Review daily cash, card, and delivery platform banking to ensure accurate revenue recording and reconciliations
  • Capture and maintain accurate financial records in QuickBooks Online for purchases, sales, expenses, and banking
  • Prepare monthly management accounts, financial statements, and operational reports for management review
  • Manage tax and statutory compliance, including VAT returns, reconciliations, and KRA iTax submissions
  • Oversee licensing, audits, and financial documentation while supervising the Stock Controller and supporting operational teams

Key Qualifications

  • Diploma or a Degree in a related field.
  • Professional accounting qualification: CPA (K), ACCA, or CIMA
  • Post-qualification experience, preferably in hospitality.
  • Strong attention to detail, analytical skills, and problem-solving ability
