The Sales Agronomist will be responsible for driving sales and market growth of agricultural inputs and related products by providing professional agronomic advice to customers, agrovet outlets, farmers, institutions, and other clients. The role combines technical agronomy expertise with sales and business development, ensuring customers receive the right products and solutions while achieving assigned sales targets and strengthening the company's presence in the market.

Responsibilities or duties

Sales & Business Development

  • Develop and execute sales plans to achieve monthly, quarterly, and annual sales targets.
  • Identify and develop new customers, including agrovet shops, distributors, farmers, commercial farms, institutions, and other agricultural businesses.
  • Grow sales of agrochemicals, fertilizers, seeds, animal health products, and other agricultural/veterinary products.
  • Conduct regular customer visits and maintain strong relationships with existing customers.
  • Prepare quotations, product proposals, and sales reports as required.
  • Follow up on leads, quotations, orders, and outstanding customer requirements.
  • Monitor customer buying patterns and identify opportunities for upselling and cross-selling.
  • Support the company in expanding its customer and distribution network.

Agronomic & Technical Support

  • Provide professional agronomic advice to farmers, agrovet customers, and other clients.
  • Recommend appropriate agricultural inputs based on crops, pests, diseases, soil conditions, and customer requirements.
  • Provide guidance on correct product application, dosage, timing, handling, and safe use in accordance with approved product labels and applicable regulations.
  • Diagnose common crop pests, diseases, and production challenges and recommend appropriate solutions.
  • Conduct farm visits and field assessments where required.
  • Support customers in developing crop production and crop protection programs.
  • Provide technical support on fertilizers, seeds, crop protection products, biostimulants, and related agricultural solutions.
  • Where applicable, provide basic technical support on veterinary products within the scope of the employee's qualifications and approved product information.

Market Development & Customer Engagement

  • Conduct product demonstrations, farmer training, field days, and customer education sessions.
  • Develop strong relationships with farmers, agrovet owners, agricultural officers, farm managers, and other industry stakeholders.
  • Gather market intelligence on competitors, pricing, products, promotions, and emerging customer needs.
  • Identify new market opportunities and recommend products that can address identified market gaps.
  • Represent the company at agricultural exhibitions, trade fairs, farmer events, and promotional activities.

Stock & Product Management

  • Work closely with the warehouse and procurement teams to monitor product availability.
  • Communicate customer demand and market trends to the relevant teams to support stock planning.
  • Monitor fast-moving and slow-moving products and provide recommendations.
  • Ensure products are correctly promoted and communicated to customers.
  • Support proper handling and responsible use of agricultural and veterinary products.

Reporting & Administration

  • Maintain accurate customer records and sales activity reports.
  • Submit daily/weekly/monthly sales reports as required.
  • Maintain an updated sales pipeline and customer database.
  • Track sales performance against assigned targets.
  • Prepare reports on customer visits, market activities, product performance, and competitor activities.
  • Ensure all sales activities comply with company policies and applicable regulatory requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Agronomy, Agriculture, Horticulture, Crop Protection, Plant Science, or a related field.
  • A Diploma in Agriculture/Agronomy may be considered for candidates with strong relevant sales experience.

Experience:

  • At least 2–4 years' experience in agribusiness, agricultural inputs, agrochemicals, fertilizers, seeds, crop protection, or a related sales environment.
  • Experience working with agrovets, distributors, stockists, farmers, commercial farms, or agricultural institutions is highly desirable.
  • Proven experience in achieving sales targets and developing new markets.
  • Experience in technical product selling and farmer/customer training will be an added advantage.
