Background

Cornerstone Preparatory Academy is a Christ-centered educational institution committed to providing holistic, transformational education to Kenyan children. The Academy exists to provide all that is necessary for every child that we serve at every age so that they may grow to be WORLD changers.

We are seeking a compassionate, professional, and child-centered School Counselor to support the social, emotional, behavioral, and academic well-being of our learners.

Responsibilities

  • Provide individual and group counseling services to students across the school.
  • Identify learners with social, emotional, behavioral, or academic challenges and provide appropriate interventions.
  • Support learners’ mental health, resilience, self-esteem, and positive behavior development.
  • Implement guidance and counseling programs aligned with the school’s values and child protection policy.
  • Provide crisis intervention and referral services when necessary.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential counseling records and reports.
  • Collaborate with teachers, school leadership, parents, and external professionals to support learner welfare.
  • Participate in child safeguarding, protection, and welfare committees.
  • Conduct life-skills sessions, mentorship programs, and psychosocial awareness activities.
  • Support behavior management and positive discipline initiatives within the school.

Requirements

  • Diploma or Degree in Counseling Psychology, Psychology, Education (Guidance & Counseling), or a related field.
  • Valid professional certification and registration with a recognized counseling body in Kenya.
  • Minimum of 4 years’ experience working with children in a school or similar setting.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of child protection, safeguarding, and confidentiality standards

  • Ability to handle sensitive matters with discretion and confidentiality.
  • Strong organizational and record-keeping skills.
