Responsibilities or duties

  • To support the health and well-being of students and staff by providing first aid, managing minor illnesses and injuries, responding to medical emergencies, administering prescribed medication, maintaining confidential medical records and supporting students with special health needs.
  • To promote preventive health education, infection control, hygiene awareness, nutrition, mental well-being and timely referral to external healthcare providers where required.
  • To work closely with students, parents, teachers, administrators, healthcare providers and public health officials to ensure the school remains a safe, healthy and supportive learning environment.
  • To assist in monitoring health risks, maintaining medical supplies, supporting school health procedures and upholding emergency response and safeguarding protocols.
  • Takes lead in health promotion and screening programs in the school and is conversant with referral procedures to health providers.
  • Educate students and staff on healthy habits, such as proper nutrition and hygiene etc.

Qualifications or requirements 

  • A Bachelor’s degree in nursing from a recognized university or School of nursing.
  • Must be licensed with the Nursing Council of Kenya.
  • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS).
  • Integrity and a commitment to ethical practices.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of normal growth of children and potential health problems at each developmental stage.
  • Skilled in first aid and management of minor ailments in children.

Experience needed

At least 2-3 years of professional nursing experience preferably in a school, pediatric, adolescent or community health setting.
