Responsibilities or duties

  • Lead teacher for Kenyan Sign Language classes across the high school, including planning, teaching, and assessment
  • Collaborate with subject teachers to co-plan, co-deliver, and co-assess lessons aligned to curriculum goals and inclusive education principles
  • Adapt and differentiate learning materials and instructional strategies to meet diverse learner needs
  • Support the development of conceptual understanding, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
  • Implement mastery-based learning and assessment approaches to ensure all learners can engage meaningfully
  • Act as a case manager for individual learning plans or support updates with the designated case manager
  • Monitor, document, and communicate learner progress with teachers, families, and the learning support team
  • Provide targeted small group or individual support during lessons where needed
  • Contribute to a safe, respectful, and engaging classroom environment that fosters curiosity and independence
  • Participate in professional learning, collaborative planning, and whole school initiatives

Qualifications or requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education or Bachelor of Education with Certification in Special Needs Education
  • Minimum 3 years relevant experience in an inclusive or special education setting
  • Demonstrated experience in Humanities, Literacy, and Kenyan Sign Language instruction
  • Valid TSC Number for Kenyan applicants
  • Strong understanding of inclusive education practices and learner support strategies
  • Excellent collaboration, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Strong alignment with Woodland Star’s mission and values

Experience needed

Minimum 3 years relevant experience in an inclusive or special education setting
