Background
CDL was founded in early 2003 by its current Managing Director Lucy Mmari.Within her 14 year tenure in a well established logistics company, She honed her skill in human resources management and thereafter started CDL.
Job Purpose
To provide strategic financial leadership by planning, directing, and managing the company's financial resources, ensuring financial sustainability, compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements, effective financial controls, accurate reporting, budgeting, and sound financial decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management
- Develop and implement the company's financial strategy in line with business objectives.
- Oversee all accounting and financial operations.
- Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Ensure proper maintenance of accounting records and financial systems.
- Monitor the company's financial performance and recommend corrective actions where necessary.
Budgeting and Planning
- Lead the preparation of annual budgets and financial forecasts.
- Monitor departmental budgets and control expenditure.
- Conduct financial analysis and provide recommendations to improve profitability.
- Prepare cash flow forecasts and ensure adequate working capital.
Treasury and Cash Management
- Manage cash flow, banking relationships, and company investments.
- Authorize payments and ensure timely settlement of suppliers and statutory obligations.
- Monitor receivables and payables to maintain healthy cash flow.
Financial Reporting
- Present monthly management accounts and financial reports to senior management.
- Analyse financial results and explain significant variances.
- Provide financial insights to support strategic business decisions.
Internal Controls and Risk Management
- Develop and maintain effective financial controls and accounting procedures.
- Identify financial risks and implement appropriate mitigation measures.
- Safeguard company assets through proper financial governance.
- Ensure compliance with company financial policies.
Taxation and Statutory Compliance
- Ensure timely preparation and submission of all statutory returns.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable tax laws and regulations.
- Liaise with external auditors, tax consultants, banks, and regulatory authorities.
- Coordinate annual external audits and implement audit recommendations.
Procurement and Cost Control
- Monitor project costing and profitability.
- Review procurement expenditures to ensure value for money.
- Develop cost-saving initiatives without compromising quality.
Payroll Administration
- Oversee payroll processing and ensure accuracy.
- Ensure statutory deductions and employee benefits are correctly processed.
Leadership and Staff Management
- Lead, mentor, and develop the finance team.
- Conduct staff performance appraisals and identify training needs.
- Promote ethical conduct, accountability, and continuous improvement within the finance department.
Strategic Support
- Advise management on investment decisions, financing options, and business growth opportunities.
- Participate in strategic planning and business development initiatives.
- Evaluate the financial viability of major projects and capital investments.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Commerce, or a related field.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA-K)
- Membership in the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK) is an added advantage.
Experience
- 5 years of progressive experience in finance and accounting.
- Minimum of 3 years in a senior finance management role.
- Experience in manufacturing, branding, signage, construction, or project-based businesses is an added advantage.
