OVERALL PURPOSE OF THE JOB
The role holder ensures accurate financial accounting, regulatory compliance, and reporting through proper bookkeeping, timely reconciliations, and preparation of statutory and management reports, in line with accounting standards and insurance regulatory frameworks, working closely with the Deputy Head of Finance and the Head of Finance.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Accounting
- Prepare monthly Management Accounts in compliance with IFRS 17 and IRA guidelines.
- Ensure accurate posting of transactions in the general ledger and timely closure of books of accounts as per the set deadlines
- Oversee the reconciliation and review of bank accounts and bank balances
- Prepare daily/weekly cash-flow reports
Regulatory Compliance
- Prepare and submit statutory returns to the Insurance Regulatory Authority (IRA), Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) and other stakeholders.
- Ensure VAT, PAYE, withholding tax, NHIF, NSSF, and other taxes are filed and paid within the prescribed deadlines
- Support external audits and coordinate responses to audit queries.
Budgeting & Forecasting
- Assist in preparation of the annual budget and forecasts.
- Monitor budget utilization and provide variance analysis.
General Duties
- Monitor and approve Creditor Invoice Accruals, Surrenders and Journal Vouchers.
- Prepare the Asset Register, Prepayment Schedules and prepare periodic reports as required
- Prepare monthly rental income schedules Reconcile monthly customer mpesa deposits and its utilization
- Prepare monthly reports Any other duties as may be assigned from time to time
Academic Qualifications
University degree in Finance, Economics or Accounting or equivalent from an institution recognized by Commission for Higher Education
Professional Qualifications
CPA (K) or equivalent; Member of ICPA(K)
Experience
MUST have at least five (5) years’ experience in a busy commercial Finance & Accounts Department.
Experience in Financial Management Systems Business/Department strategy formulation and execution
Supervisory and leadership skills managing team/department performance and staff
Skills and Attributes
High attention to detail and excellent analytical skills High integrity and ethical level;
Able to maintain utmost confidentiality of information in their possession
Excellent communication, interpersonal, negotiation and presentation skills
Self-motivated, confident and outgoing personality
Have great attention to detail and able to get things done to completion
