We are currently recruiting on behalf of our client, a fast-growing and dynamic company, for the position of Senior Accountant.
The incumbent will oversee day-to-day accounting operations, deliver timely and accurate financial reports, ensure statutory and tax compliance, strengthen internal controls. This is a hands-on senior role that combines technical accounting, process ownership, and business partnering to support strategic decision-making.
Key Responsibilities.
Financial Reporting & Compliance
- Prepare, review, and finalise monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in line with Internal Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and statutory requirements.
- Lead month-end and year-end closing processes, ensuring timely and accurate journal postings and reconciliations.
- Produce management accounts with analysis, commentary, and actionable insights.
- Ensure timely and accurate filing of statutory returns (PAYE, VAT, Corporate Tax, NSSF, NHIF, Withholding Tax, etc.).
- Liaise with KRA and tax advisors to resolve queries and avoid penalties.
- Coordinate internal and external audits, prepare audit schedules, and implement audit recommendations.
Accounting Operations & Treasury
- Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll interface, bank reconciliations, and general ledger maintenance.
- Monitor cashflow, prepare forecasts, and flag liquidity issues to management.
- Manage and update the fixed assets register, ensuring correct depreciation schedules.
- Supervise and mentor assistant, reviewing their work and promoting best practice.
Stock & Inventory Monitoring
- Monitor stock levels, movement, and valuation to ensure accuracy in financial reporting.
- Implement inventory control procedures in collaboration with inventory teams.
- Provide management with reports on stock utilization, ageing, shrinkage, and wastage.
Sales Receivables & Credit Control
- Oversee management of accounts receivable, ensuring timely collection of outstanding invoices.
- Monitor customer credit limits with sales and enforce adherence to company credit policies.
- Reconcile receivables ledger with customer statements to ensure accuracy.
- Generate and review ageing analysis reports, escalating overdue accounts for action.
- Collaborate with the sales team to resolve disputes, credit notes, and payment delays.
- Provide monthly receivables performance reports, including Days Sales Outstanding (DSO).
Sales Analysis & Reporting
- Support the sales department with financial insights into revenue performance.
- Analyze sales trends, margins, and profitability across products, services, or channels.
- Prepare monthly and quarterly sales performance dashboards.
- Provide variance analysis of actual versus forecasted sales.
- Advise management on opportunities to improve sales efficiency and profitability.
Budgeting, Forecasting & Advisory
- Support the preparation of annual budgets and rolling forecasts.
- Monitor budget utilization, provide variance reports, and recommend corrective actions.
- Conduct financial analysis to support strategic projects, investments, and operational decisions.
- Participate in cross-functional projects such as cost optimization, ERP upgrades, or new system implementation.
Qualifications & Experience (minimum)
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field.
- CPA(K), ACCA or equivalent professional accounting qualification (mandatory).
- Minimum 5–7 years progressive accounting experience; at least 2 years in a senior or supervisory capacity.
- Proven experience with IFRS application, Kenyan tax laws, and statutory reporting.
- Experience preparing for and managing external audits.
