The Independent Policing Oversight Authority is established pursuant to the Independent Policing Oversight Authority Act Cap. 86 Laws of Kenya. Its main function is to provide for civilian oversight over the work of the Police. Audit Planning and Execution: Develop and implement risk-based internal audit plans, scope individual projects, and perform audit procedures to assess operational and financial processes. Risk Management: Apply risk management principles to identify, assess, and mitigate risks across the organization. Control Evaluation: Evaluate the effectiveness of internal controls, identify control deficiencies, and recommend practical solutions to address them. Reporting: Prepare and present detailed audit reports to management and the audit committee, summarizing findings, areas of concern, and proposed corrective actions. Compliance: Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, internal policies, and professional standards. Leadership and Team Development: Lead, motivate, and develop audit teams, fostering a high-performing environment and providing coaching. Stakeholder Collaboration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams and negotiate with senior internal clients and external stakeholders.
Analytical & Critical Thinking: Exceptional mathematical and analytical skills to critically examine complex systems and interpret data. Leadership & Management: Ability to lead and manage teams, set direction, and implement plans effectively. Communication & Interpersonal Skills: Strong report writing, presentation, and negotiation skills to communicate findings clearly to various stakeholders. Technical Proficiency: Working knowledge of auditing software (e.g., CAMS, AuditBoard) and data analytics tools. Integrity & Professional Ethics: A high level of integrity and adherence to professional ethics is fundamental to the role. Risk Management Expertise: Solid understanding of risk management frameworks and the ability to apply them in an organizational context. Project Management: Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously in a complex environment.
