Machakos County, nicknamed 'Macha,’ was the first capital city of Kenya and is now an administrative county in Kenya. Machakos is made up of eight (8) constituencies including Machakos Town, Mavoko, Masinga, Yatta, Kangundo, Kathiani, Matungulu, and Mwala. Machakos Town is the administrative capital of the County.
Responsibilities or duties
- Examine patients’ teeth, jaws, and facial structure to diagnose issues like crowding, spacing, overbites, and underbites.
- Develop individualized treatment plans using methods such as braces, wires, and aligners to correct these issues.
- Perform diagnostic tests, including interpreting X-rays, to determine the best course of action.
- Fit patients for orthodontic appliances like braces and retainers.
- Make adjustments to appliances, such as tightening braces, during regular appointments to track and guide treatment progress.
- Monitor the patient’s health and the condition of their teeth and periodontal tissues throughout the treatment.
- Educate patients and their caregivers on appropriate oral hygiene practices to maintain good health during and after treatment.
- Explain treatment plans, associated costs, and expected outcomes to patients.
- Collaborate with other dental professionals, such as general dentists and oral surgeons, to coordinate patient care within a broader treatment plan.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, including photographs and medical history.
- Stay current with new orthodontic techniques and advancements.
- Uphold ethical and professional standards in all aspects of practice.
Qualifications or requirements
- Bachelor of Dental Surgery (DS) degree or any other equivalent qualification recognized by the Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board.
- Master of Dental Surgery degree in Orthodontics.
- Certificate of Registration by the Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board.
- Valid practicing license from the Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board.
- Certificate in Strategic Leadership Development Programme lasting not less than six (6) weeks from a recognized institution.
- Certificate in Computer application skills from a recognized institution.

Demonstrated professional competence and managerial capability as reflected in work performance and results.
