Duties and Responsibilities

  • Evaluating patients to determine if surgery is necessary, interpreting tests (labs, imaging), and explaining risks and benefits.
  • Performing a broad range of surgeries, including hernia repairs, appendix removal (appendicitis), gallbladder removal (gallstones), bowel obstructions, and cancer removals ​ ​ (e.g., breast, colon).
  • Acting as first-line surgical help in emergencies and managing acute injuries or conditions.
  • Providing follow-up care in the ICU or hospital ward, ensuring patient recovery, and managing surgical complications.
  • Utilizing laparoscopic (keyhole) techniques for faster recovery times.

Requirements for Appointment

  • Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (M.B.Ch.B) degree from an institution recognized by the Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board.
  • Masters in family medicine.
  • Certificate of Registration by the Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board.
  • Valid practicing license from the Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board.
  • Certificate in Strategic Leadership Development Programme lasting not less than six (6) weeks from a recognized institution.
  • Certificate in Computer application skills from a recognized institution.
  • Demonstrated professional competence and managerial capability as reflected in work performance and results.
