Job Description

We are seeking to hire a Senior Completions Engineer (Onshore Planning) who will be responsible for leading the planning, design, and optimization of onshore well completion and well intervention activities. The role will ensure the delivery of safe, efficient, and cost-effective completion systems while meeting operational, technical, regulatory, and project objectives. The ideal candidate must possess extensive upstream oil & gas experience, with a strong background in completion engineering, well integrity management, and completion campaign planning. Nairobi based role with regular field visits.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop completion basis of design and detailed completion programs, including tubing, packers, perforating systems, cementing and isolation programs, sand control systems, artificial lift interfaces, downhole tools, and completion schematics.
  • Prepare completion work packs, scopes of work, tender documentation, activity schedules, critical path analyses, and resource plans to support project execution.
  • Conduct technical risk assessments, including HAZID, HAZOP, completion hazards, and well integrity reviews, ensuring mitigation measures are incorporated into execution plans.
  • Generate completion cost estimates, schedule baselines, material requirements, and procurement plans to support budgeting and contractor selection processes.
  • Coordinate with subsurface, drilling, production, HSSEQ, logistics, procurement, and regulatory teams to ensure alignment of completion objectives and operational requirements.
  • Specify, review, and verify completion equipment, wellheads, downhole tools, completion fluids, and surface completion hardware to ensure fitness for purpose and operational efficiency.
  • Prepare completion procedures, testing and commissioning plans, operational readiness reviews, pre-job briefings, and mobilization documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with HSSEQ standards, well integrity requirements, well control procedures, and applicable regulatory obligations.
  • Provide technical support during execution, troubleshooting completion-related challenges and supporting operational decision-making.
  • Maintain accurate completion records, as-built documentation, well files, test reports, and completion diagrams.
  • Participate in post-job reviews, lessons learned sessions, and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance completion performance and reliability.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned in support of drilling and completion operations.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Petroleum Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years’ experience in upstream oil & gas operations, with significant experience in onshore completions engineering and well intervention planning.
  • Proven experience delivering onshore completion campaigns from planning through execution within upstream oil & gas environments.
  • Strong knowledge of completion system design, packers, tubing design, perforating, sand control, artificial lift systems, well integrity management, and production optimization.
  • Experience preparing completion programs, scopes of work, tender documentation, cost estimates, and operational schedules.
  • Experience managing completion contractors, service companies, and technical service providers in remote onshore operating environments.
  • Proficiency in completion engineering software, well data management systems, and project planning tools.
  • Strong understanding of pressure control equipment, testing procedures, commissioning activities, and completion risk management.
  • Professional engineering registration and IWCF Well Control Certification or equivalent certifications will be an added advantage.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, communication, stakeholder management, and leadership skills.
