Entry Requirements:
An officer at this level shall report to Chief Conservator of Forests
Duties and responsibilities
- Initiating, formulate, implement, review and advice on policies, strategies and programmes relating to Natural Forest Conservation Management, Forest Plantation Management, Forest Advisory and County liaison and Dryland, Private Forests Development coordination, Kenya Forestry College and Forest Survey and Information Management
- Lead in development of the Forest Resource Assessment Report and Forest Status Report for submission to the Cabinet Secretary once in every five (5) years and two (2) years respectively;
- Lead Restoration of degraded natural forest areas by removal of invasive species, rehabilitation and protection for natural regeneration
- Oversee the development and implementation of plans for Natural Forest Conservation Management, Forest Plantation Management, Forest Advisory and County liaison and Dryland and Private Forests Development coordination
- Oversee management of forest health, biodiversity analysis conservation, Forest Fire Management and forest watershed management;
- Promote Community Forest associations and Participatory Forest Management
- Coordinating the management of the Forest Investment Facility (FIF) of KFS. This facility advances loans for investment in farm forestry enterprises to farmers;
- Drive the implementation of the “National Strategy for the Achievement and Maintenance of a Tree Cover of Over 10%”
- Supporting the growth and development of forest producer associations, tree growers and charcoal producer associations; and develop chain of custody tools and systems for regulating movement and ownership of forest product
- Lead Dryland, private / farm forestry development
- Promote efficient Dryland afforestation technologies
- Lead in undertaking assessments of forest plantation developments through strategic environmental assessments, audits and social concerns, plantation surveys, density checks and projection of expected royalties;
- Oversee Forest Inventory Management, Assessment and valuation of Plantations, Dry-lands and Mangrove forests for biomass estimation, statistics yearbook and appropriate sale;
- Mitigating against forest damages caused by fires, diseases, pests and game;

- Bachelor’s Degree in Forestry studies
- Master’s Degree in Relevant field from a recognized institution
- Professional qualification and membership where applicable
- Leadership course lasting not less than four (4) weeks
- At least twelve (12) years’ work experience
- Served for at least four (4) years in senior management
- Proficiency in computer applications
- Fulfil the requirements of Chapter 6 of the Constitution
