Senior Environment Officer

NHC Job Grade: 6

Job Specification:

Duties and responsibilities at this level entail assisting in:-

  • Collecting and analyzing environmental research findings;
  • Implementing environmental strategies and action plans;
  • Identifying environmental risks associated with the proposed Housing and infrastructure and/or flagship projects;
  • Ensuring compliance with the Corporation’s environmental management policies: government regulatory requirements and/or development partners policies and reporting guidelines;
  • Planning and carrying out sensitization workshops, sessions and meetings to raise awareness on the Corporation’s environmental management policies and social safeguards;
  • Assessing and analysing environmental impacts of infrastructure development projects and programs including stakeholder mapping and participation;
  • Preparing or reviewing environmental impact assessment reports, resettlement action plan and environmental management plan summaries to ensure adequate coverage of all pertinent issues required by environmental assessment procedures;
  • Integrating and mainstreaming climate adaptation and mitigation measures in Housing development and management programs.

Person Specification:

For appointment to this grade, a person must have:-

  • Cumulative service period of six (6) years relevant work experience, three (3) of which should have been in the grade of Environment Officer 1 or in a comparable position;
  • Bachelors Degree in Environmental Studies, Physical or Biological Sciences, Natural Resources Management, Agriculture Engineering or related field from a recognized institution;
  • Registration as an Associate Expert with NEMA;
  • Proficiency in computer applications;
  • Shown merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results.
