Job Specifications
Duties and responsibilities will entail: -
- Collating and analyzing environmental research findings;
- Implementing of environmental and social strategies and action plans that ensure sustainable roads development;
- Implementing relevant environmental laws and regulations;
- Coordinating environmental impact studies of new projects;
- Monitoring, assessing, evaluating the impact of development activities on the environment and advising on corrective measures where appropriate;
- Collating, and analyzing environmental research findings;
- Tracking progress on environmental and social performance systems;
- Providing support to project development initiatives in the board and ensuring environmental and social development issues are addressed;
- Supervising environmental studies consultants' assignments;
- Overseeing and supervising consultants' assignments; and
- Undertaking all activities involved in environmental protection as assigned.
- Conducting environmental impact assessment and audits for all projects;
- Liaising with relevant bodies such as county governments, Kenya forest service, NEMA, Kenya water towers and other environmental agencies during implementation of programs;
- Formulating environmental conservation and management programs and projects for implementation in compliance with National Environment policies;
- Producing reports on a range of issues related to environment activities, documenting processes, procedures and decisions, making recommendations as appropriate;
- Preparing appropriate records related to environment are maintained in accordance with Agency policies and procedures;
- Interpreting the national policies on conservation of the environment and adapt them to the Agency’s mandate;
- Building capacity and resilience to climate change as necessary in the Agency’s area of jurisdiction/ Build capacity on climate change adaptation and resilience; and
- Preparing reports on the progress of implementation of regional and international obligations with respect to conservation and sustainable utilization of natural resources.
Person Specifications
For appointment to this position, a candidate must have: -
- At least Four (4) years’ work experience as an Environmentalist or in a relevant and comparable position;
- Bachelor’s Degree in any of the following disciplines: - Environmental Studies, Physical or Biological Sciences, Natural Resources Management, or related field from a recognized institution;
- Been Registered with NEMA as a Lead Expert;
- Valid Annual Practicing License from NEMA;
- A Supervisory Course lasting not less than two (2) weeks from a recognized institution;
- Proficiency in computer applications;
- Shown merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results; and
- Meets the provisions of Chapter Six (6) of the Constitution.
