About Innovations for Poverty Action:

Innovations for Poverty Action (IPA) is a non-profit organization dedicated to discovering and promoting effective solutions to global poverty problems. In close partnership with decision makers -- the policymakers, practitioners, investors, and donors working with the poor around the world -- IPA designs and evaluates potential solutions to poverty problems using randomized evaluations, the most rigorous evaluation method available.

We also mobilize and support these decision makers to use these solutions to build better programs and policies at scale.

About the Project:

The Daycare Evaluation Program (DEP) Project is a project that seeks to evaluate the market - and firm-level impacts of an innovative social franchising model implemented by Kidogo that aims to improve childcare quality and access in multiple Counties in Kenya.

The evaluation is led by PIs from Ohio State University, University of Vermont and Villanova University. The project undertook baseline activities in the first quarter of 2024. The Midline was completed this year and Endline expected in 2026.

The project has its activities in Busia, Bungoma, Kakamega, Uasin Gishu, Nakuru, Nairobi, Kiambu, Machakos, Kajiado, Mombasa and Kilifi Counties.

About the Position:

The Senior Field Officer under the general supervision and support of the Field Manager and research Associate and within the limits of Innovations for Poverty Action-Kenya policies and procedures; will generally be facilitating field logistics during field work. Develop and execute field work plans under the guidance and support of the field manager and the research associate.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist in bench testing and piloting of the survey tool on SurveyCTO to ensure it is up to standard.
  • Data collection management which includes leading a team conducting in-person and phone surveys and providing feedback on Survey CTO programming, assist in survey translations, overseeing, monitoring and conducting data collection.
  • Work closely with the FM to ensure that all work schedules are received by the enumerators every morning before any activities begin.
  • Ensure all teams have sufficient work for the day based on the work schedules and make changes/adapt if necessary.
  • Ensure that all the teams have all necessary material/tools required for data collection. This must be made available on time.
  • Assist in coordinating the project staff training.
  • Lead a team of FOs during pilot practice and provide feedback on questionnaire and Survey CTO programming.
  • Organizing data collected by enumerators, providing feedback on day-to-day operations and survey instruments.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in social sciences, public policy, or related fields.
  • At least 2 years’ experience in data collection and management.
  • Demonstrated experience managing teams.
  • Previous experience collecting data using SurveyCTO in-person and over phone.
  • Demonstrated experience in tracking respondents.
  • Adept in survey translation with great communication skills.
  • Flexible, self-motivated and able to work efficiently under minimal supervision.

Preferred

  • Experience conducting child assessments and anthropometric measurements.
  • Candidates who are from or are comfortable working in Nairobi, Nakuru, Naivasha, Kajiado, Kiambu, Machakos, Mombasa, Kilifi North, Kilifi South, Uasin Gishu, Kakamega, Bungoma and Busia.
