About the role

We are looking for a well-connected senior advisor to help us build relationships with, and carve the right in-roads into a broader set of funders. We need someone with a deep understanding of the global health and philanthropic funding landscape, and can help us think strategically about which doors to knock on and how. You will work closely with our Director of Global Development, Co-Executive Director, and Head of Country Expansion, operating as a trusted thought partner and connector as we sharpen our fundraising strategy and pursue new revenue streams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Help us build and activate a broad network of relevant funder relationships. This includes identifying the right channels, events, and communities to engage, making targeted introductions, and helping us show up in the right rooms.
  • We have strong philanthropic foundation funding but want to diversify into new revenue streams to support our next phase of scale, including bilaterals, multilaterals, government-to-government, big bet and effective altruism funders, and corporates. A core early contribution will be scoping work: assessing which of these channels represent the right bets for us, where the most promising in-roads lie, and where we should be investing our time.
  • Provide targeted advisory support on a rolling basis: for example, helping us craft the right narrative and ask for a specific funder, pressure-testing our positioning for a new funding channel, or developing a focused action plan around one or two priority opportunities that our internal team can then own and drive.
  • Work alongside our Head of Country Expansion, and Directors of Global Programs and Development to identify and connect with funders who can resource our scale-up across current and new SSA geographies.

Qualifications

  • Deeply networked in the global health and international development funding ecosystem, with strong existing relationships across foundations, multilaterals, bilaterals, and big bet funders.
  • Direct experience working in or supporting fundraising efforts across Sub-Saharan Africa.
  • Senior-level background in fundraising or business development for mission-driven global health organisations, with experience spanning multiple funding channels beyond foundations.
  • A strategic thinker who can help a growing organisation cut through a complex funding landscape, and is comfortable shaping thinking and making connections rather than managing delivery.
  • Bonus: existing relationships with funders such as Skoll, Co-Impact, CIFF, ELMA, or experience navigating government-to-government or multilateral funding mechanisms.

Desirable Skills and Competencies:

  • Experience working on maternal health, newborn care, or broader reproductive and primary health programmes in SSA.
  • Existing relationships with in-country government stakeholders in Nigeria, Tanzania, Ghana, or other West or East African markets.
  • Familiarity with the G2G aid landscape as it is evolving under current US foreign policy priorities.
