BANK OF AFRICA - KENYA LIMITED (BOA-KENYA) is a commercial bank providing banking services to corporate, SME and retail clientele.
Job Purpose:
To provide assurance on the degree of risk management within audited activities by planning, leading, and executing internal audit engagements, supervising audit assignments, and contributing towards improving the Bank’s operations, processes, and overall governance.
Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
Audit Planning and Execution
- Plan, coordinate, and lead assigned audit engagements in accordance with the approved annual audit plan.
- Develop audit programs, determine audit scope, objectives, and testing procedures based on identified risks.
- Conduct financial, operational, compliance, branch, credit, treasury, and special audits.
- Evaluate the adequacy and effectiveness of internal controls, governance processes, and risk management practices.
- Perform detailed audit testing, analyze audit evidence, and document findings in accordance with Internal Audit methodology.
- Identify process inefficiencies, control weaknesses, and regulatory compliance gaps, and recommend practical corrective actions.
Reporting
- Prepare comprehensive audit reports that clearly communicate findings, root causes, risk implications, and practical recommendations.
- Present audit findings to management and participate in audit exit meetings.
- Monitor implementation of agreed audit recommendations and validate closure of audit issues
Risk Management and Compliance
- Assess the effectiveness of the Bank’s risk management and internal control frameworks.
- Review compliance with applicable banking laws, regulations, prudential guidelines, internal policies, and approved procedures.
- Evaluate compliance with Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Counter Financing of Terrorism (CFT), Know Your Customer (KYC), consumer protection, and data protection requirements
- Identify emerging risks and recommend improvements to the Bank’s control environment
Fraud Risk and Investigations
- Participate in fraud investigations and special reviews as directed.
- Assess fraud risks and evaluate the adequacy of fraud prevention and detection controls.
- Report suspected fraud or irregularities in accordance with the Bank’s policies.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Build effective working relationships with business units while maintaining auditor independence.
- Provide advisory services on internal controls, governance, and risk management where appropriate.
- Participate in meetings to discuss audit findings and agreed management actions.
Data Analytics and Continuous Auditing
- Support the continuous enhancement of audit methodologies, tools, and practices.
- Leverage data analytics techniques to enhance audit planning, risk assessment, testing, and reporting.
- Use ACL Analytics (or other approved audit analytics software) to analyze large volumes of transactional data, identify anomalies, detect control weaknesses, and support fraud detection.
- Develop and execute data-driven audit tests to improve audit coverage and efficiency.
- Keep abreast of developments in banking, auditing, risk management, and regulatory requirements.
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business Administration, Banking, or a related field.
Candidates must possess at least one of the following professional qualifications: Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified Public Accountant (CPA-K) or Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA).
The following qualifications will be an added advantage:
- Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA)
- Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE)
- CRMA or other relevant risk management certification.
- Data analytics
Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in internal or external audit, with at least three (3) years in the banking or financial services sector.
