Job Summary

Provide technical leadership in petrophysical evaluation and formation evaluation to deliver robust reservoir properties and inputs for well planning, reservoir modelling and production optimisation. Lead complex log interpretations, integrate core and well data, develop petrophysical models and mentor junior staff to ensure high-quality subsurface deliverables.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead interpretation of wireline and LWD logs (gamma, resistivity, density, neutron, sonic, NMR) to define lithology, porosity, saturation, net pay and fluid contacts.
  • Develop and maintain petrophysical workflows, pick lists, interpretation templates and best-practice methodologies for consistent deliverables.
  • Integrate core analysis, core-derived properties, thin sections, formation testing and laboratory results to calibrate and validate log interpretations and rock physics models.
  • Build petrophysical models (facies, porosity, saturation models), generate input property volumes and support upscaling to static and dynamic reservoir models.
  • Perform advanced saturation modelling, NMR interpretation, rock physics and uncertainty quantification; provide sensitivity analyses for reservoir studies.
  • Lead wellsite petrophysical support during logging operations, ensure data quality, advise on logging programs and sampling, and manage data handover.
  • Manage petrophysical database governance, QC processes and data integration with corporate subsurface systems.
  • Provide technical input to well planning (landing zones, casing points, fluid contacts) and production evaluations (well performance, formation damage, completions effectiveness).
  • Review and challenge external vendor interpretations; oversee third-party petrophysical services and logging contractors.
  • Produce clear technical reports, presentations and interpretation justifications for multidisciplinary reviews and senior management.
  • Mentor and develop junior petrophysicists and cross-discipline staff; lead peer reviews and training sessions.
  • Support innovation and implementation of new tools (automation, machine learning, digital workflows) and continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Geology, Geophysics, Petroleum Engineering or related discipline; postgraduate qualification in petrophysics/formation evaluation preferred.
  • 10+ years’ petrophysical/formation evaluation experience with proven track record in upstream oil & gas projects.
  • Lead interpretation of wireline and LWD logs (gamma, resistivity, density, neutron, sonic, NMR) to define lithology, porosity, saturation, net pay and fluid contacts.
