Purpose

One of the leading cement manufacturing companies in Kenya is looking to fill the position of a Shift Coordinator. The position is responsible for leading and coordinating the Shift Team, ensuring that cement production and dispatch operations are conducted in accordance with the set organizational objectives.

Academic and professional Qualifications and experience required

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or science, preferably Chemical and Process Engineering.
  • Advanced studies in Engineering, Science, or Management will be considered an added advantage.
  • A minimum of 5 years of active involvement in a busy manufacturing setup, preferably within the cement industry.
  • Proven knowledge of cement production unit operations.
  • Demonstrated experience in team management.
  • Advanced knowledge in developing measurements for production activities.

Key Skills and Competences

  • Excellent technical knowledge of the entire cement production cycle
  • Proficient in computer applications, particularly MS Office, along with strong problem-solving and analytical skills with a desire to seek solutions.
  • Strong understanding and adherence to safety laws and regulations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated capabilities in planning, scheduling, and developing measurements for production activities.
  • Strong team management abilities, including flexibility and the ability to balance shifting priorities to meet deadlines.
  • Lead, organize, and administer the shift team to execute the production schedule and achieve production objectives.
  • Ensure all Quality and Control room parameters are met, and the plant operates in compliance with established standards and group guidelines.
  • Protect plant equipment, maximize its utilization and reliability, and recommend machinery improvements and manufacturing methods.
  • Coordinate and facilitate key decision-making and problem-solving within the team, addressing operational failures or manpower-related challenges.
  • Represent the production department, coordinating and organizing teamwork with other departments to ensure seamless operations.
  • Develop and implement efficient shift schedules for the production department, proactively addressing potential obstacles like equipment malfunction or personnel shortages to meet production targets.
  • Collaborate closely with the Production Superintendent during operations and major shutdowns, supervising activities within the area of responsibility to schedule and meet targets.
  • Ensure timely sharing of critical information and prepare comprehensive technical shift reports on Production, Dispatch, Quality, Engineering performance, and safety meetings.
  • Foster a strong team environment, build trust and support among peers, and demonstrate strong delegation and succession abilities.
  • Maintain flexibility to work all hours and shifts, including weekends and holidays, and possess the physical ability to perform essential job functions.
