SIGN LANGUAGE INTERPRETER II – CASB 10 (JOB GROUP J)
- Basic Salary Kshs. - 33,900
- House Allowance - 7,500
- Commuter Allowance - 4,000
- Leave Allowance - 4,000 (Payable once in a Year)
- Mortgage & Car Loan - As per SRC guidelines
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist in helping hearing impaired individuals understand plenary and committee proceedings of the Assembly;
- Assist in facilitating communication with the deaf through sign language;
- Assist in providing accurate accounts of proceedings;
- Assist in drafting necessary departmental reports;
- Assist in liaising with the deaf community;
- Assist in providing a full range of interpreting/transliterating services for deaf/hard of hearing (HoH) employees;
- Assist in offering a variety of Sign languages (like American Sign Language (ASL), Contact Sign, and Conceptually Accurate Sign English, CASE) to facilitate communication;
- Assist in interpreting any conversation, meeting, and training session, and interviews or other requested event, including providing oral interpreting to employees who do not use sign language;
- Assist in enlightening staff on Deaf Culture and interpreter services; and
- Assist in implementing process improvement opportunities to improve on services to Assembly customers.
Requirements for appointment
- Certificate in Sign Language Interpretation, Communications, Sociology, Deaf Studies, Linguistics, Special Education or an equivalent qualification from a recognised institution;
- Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) or its equivalent qualification; and
- Certificate in Computer Applications from a recognised institution.
