Responsibilities or duties,
Duties and Responsibilities entail
- Plan, prepare and deliver maritime simulator-based training in accordance with approved curricula.
- Design simulator exercises and scenarios that develop trainees’ technical competence, decision-making, situational awareness, communication and teamwork.
- Brief trainees before each exercise, monitor their performance during simulation and conduct structured debriefing sessions afterwards.
- Assess trainees’ competence using approved assessment tools, maintain accurate training records and provide constructive feedback.
- Operate all bridge simulators, including main bridge, mini-bridges, Liquid cargo handling, Vessel Traffic Services and their respective instructor stations as available.
- Conduct routine pre-use checks and promptly report faults requiring technical support.
- Develop and regularly review simulator lesson plans, exercise manuals, assessment instruments and standard operating procedures.
- Ensure simulator training complies with quality-management requirements, occupational safety standards and applicable regulatory and institutional policies.
- Support curriculum development, course reviews, audits, inspections and approval processes relating to simulator-based maritime training.
- Coordinate simulator scheduling, utilisation and resource management while supporting the professional development of instructors in simulator-based teaching and assessment.
Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills),
Required Qualification
For appointment to this grade, a staff must have: -
- Certificate as simulator instructor.
- Diploma in any relevant field
- Kenya Maritime Authority (KMA) approval as Trainer and Assessor would be an added advantage
- Experience as simulator instructor would be an added advantage
