Role Summary
Nariana Enterprises Ltd. is seeking an experienced Site Engineer – Road Construction to join our Civil Engineering Department. The successful candidate will support the day to day technical execution of road construction works, including setting out, quality control, measurement, progress monitoring, technical documentation, resource coordination, and contractual record keeping. The Site Engineer will work closely with the Project Engineer, Project Manager, Foremen, Surveyors, Quantity Surveyors, Laboratory Team and other site personnel to ensure works are executed in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, programme requirements and contractual obligations. The role requires a technically strong and commercially aware Civil Engineer with a minimum of 5 years of practical experience in road construction projects, together with working knowledge of FIDIC Conditions of Contract and experience supporting claims, variations and Extension of Time documentation.
Key Responsibilities
Site Execution & Technical Coordination
- Support the Project Engineer and Project Manager in the day to day execution of road construction activities.
- Coordinate with Foremen, Surveyors, Laboratory personnel, Plant teams, subcontractors, and other site personnel.
- Monitor works including earthworks, drainage, subgrade, sub-base, base course, pavement works, surfacing, and associated road works.
- Interpret drawings, specifications, BOQs, profiles, and construction details.
- Carry out and coordinate setting out activities and verify levels, dimensions, alignments, and tolerances.
- Monitor quality requirements and coordinate material testing and inspection activities.
- Identify technical issues, delays, and resource constraints and report them promptly.
Measurement, BOQs & Cost Control
- Measure completed works and maintain accurate records of quantities executed.
- Compare actual quantities against BOQs and report significant variations.
- Assist with preparation and verification of quantities for Interim Payment Certificates (IPCs).
- Monitor material, plant, labour, and resource utilisation.
- Support project cost control by identifying abnormal consumption, wastage, or unusual productivity trends.
FIDIC, Claims & Contractual Documentation
- Maintain a practical working knowledge of FIDIC Conditions of Contract.
- Identify site events that may result in claims, variations, additional works, delays, or Extension of Time.
- Maintain accurate supporting records including site diaries, photographs, Engineer’s instructions, measurements, labour records, plant records, and correspondence.
- Assist with preparation of contractual notices, claims, variations, and Extension of Time submissions.
- Monitor Engineer/Consultant instructions and report any instructions with potential time or cost implications.
- Ensure contractual events are documented promptly and accurately.
Progress Reporting & Coordination
- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly site progress reports.
- Monitor actual progress against the construction programme.
- Maintain site diaries and photographic records of works and significant events.
- Attend site and technical meetings as required.
- Coordinate with the Consultant/Engineer on inspections, approvals, technical queries, and site instructions.
- Work closely with Project Managers, Project Engineers, Quantity Surveyors, Procurement, Stores, Plant, Laboratory, and Survey teams.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- Registration with the Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK) or eligibility for relevant registration.
- Minimum 5 years of practical experience in road construction.
- Previous experience working for a road construction, civil engineering, or contracting company is mandatory.
- Good knowledge of FIDIC Conditions of Contract.
- Practical experience with claims, variations, contractual notices, and Extension of Time matters.
- Experience with BOQs, measurement of works, and IPC preparation/support.
- Only candidates with a minimum of 5 years of relevant road construction experience will be considered.
- Strong understanding of road construction drawings, specifications, and quality requirements.
- Practical experience in setting out and surveying.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or similar engineering software.
- Strong Microsoft Excel, Word, and reporting skills.
- Valid driving licence.
