A construction site nurse is responsible for providing first aid, emergency care and ongoing health supervision for workers on construction projects, ensuring compliance with occupational health and safety standards. Their role bridges medical support and workplace safety, making them essential for high-risk environments like construction sites.

Key Responsibilities of a Construction Site Nurse

  • First Aid & Primary Care
    • Treat minor injuries such as cuts, burns, sprains, and abrasions.
    • Provide wound care and monitor recovery progress.
  • Emergency Response
    • Handle serious accidents (fractures, head injuries, heavy machinery accidents).
    • Stabilize patients and coordinate transport to hospitals.
  • Health Monitoring
    • Conduct routine health checks (blood pressure, temperature, general wellness).
    • Monitor workers for signs of fatigue, dehydration, or occupational illness.
  • Safety & Compliance
    • Ensure adherence to workplace health regulations.
    • Participate in accident/incident investigations and recommend preventive measures.
  • Education & Training
    • Provide health and safety training (injury prevention, proper use of PPE).
    • Promote wellness programs such as stress management and nutrition awareness.

Qualifications

  • Degree or Diploma in Nursing from a recognized institution.
  • Valid nursing license from the Nursing Council of Kenya.
  • 1–2 years of nursing experience in construction is an added advantage.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • High level of professionalism, empathy, and attention to detail.
