Job Description

The Social Policy Specialist will be responsible for providing technical support and guidance on social policy issues to the UNICEF Kenya Country Office. This includes contributing to policy analysis, research, advocacy, and program development in areas related to child rights, social protection, and equity. The role involves collaborating with government counterparts, civil society organizations, and other UN agencies to promote policies that benefit children and women.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct analysis of social policies and their impact on children and women in Kenya.
  • Provide technical advice to the government and partners on social protection, child rights, and equity issues.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of UNICEF's social policy programs and strategies.
  • Undertake research and data collection to inform policy advocacy and program design.
  • Engage in advocacy efforts to promote child-friendly policies and legislation.
  • Build and maintain partnerships with key stakeholders, including government ministries, NGOs, and other development partners.
  • Prepare reports, policy briefs, and other communication materials.

Qualifications

  • Advanced university degree in social sciences, economics, public policy, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in social policy analysis, research, and advocacy, preferably in a developing country context.
  • Strong understanding of social protection systems, child rights, and poverty reduction strategies.
  • Excellent analytical, research, and writing skills.
  • Proven ability to work effectively with government officials and other stakeholders.
  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of Swahili is an asset.
