The Need
For over 25 years, IJM has pioneered the work to protect vulnerable people from violence. As we grow to expand our impact to protect 500 million people globally from violence by 2030, we are seeking an energetic, motivated, highly organized, detail-oriented, and flexible individual with a passion for justice to serve the above role. The successful candidate will support the delivery of survivor-centered, trauma-informed social services for survivors of violence against women and children. The role is responsible for coordinating case management, psychosocial support, partner engagement, and trauma-informed interventions, while contributing to program implementation, capacity building, monitoring, and reporting. Working collaboratively with internal teams and external stakeholders, the Social Services Associate will strengthen referral networks, enhance survivors' access to support and justice services, and advance IJM's mission to protect vulnerable individuals and communities.
This position is based in Mombasa and reports to the Violence Against Women and Children (VAWC) Program Manager.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide quality and timely delivery of services to IJM survivors of VAWC that empower clients towards restoration while observing minimum standards of care
- Develop and manage survivor services related to government and stakeholder relationships within the scope of operation.
- Provide monthly and quarterly reports to the Manager, VAWC on all survivor services related activities
- Participate in the development of referral pathways and reporting mechanisms with other stakeholders that help enhance reporting of VAWC cases.
- Participate in the implementation of survivor related polices and strategies to ensure achievement of survivor related interventions.
- Participate in planning and delivery of training for justice system actors and other stakeholders on victim sensitive standards and case management.
- Working with the community coordinator, participate in sensitization of communities and duty bearers on the illegality of VAWC and the importance of reporting it.
- Prepare timely and accurate reports on the status of project implementation for relevant outcomes.
- Financial planning and tracking of expenditure including preparing budgets and tracking actual spending for relevant outcomes.
Requirements
- Degree in Social Work/Counselling Psychology or equivalent. A master’s degree in social work or a related field is an added advantage.
- At least three (3) years of professional experience practicing as a social worker/Counsellor in a reputable organization and/or providing counselling or psychotherapy to victims of trauma.
- Past experience in Sexual and Gender Based Violence is highly desired.
- Proven experience in successful networking with service providers including resource mapping.
- Certification with Psychologist board or Psychological Association is a plus.
- Excellent report writing skills.
- Well-versed in trauma-focused models, principles, and processes.
- Strong ethical and professional adherence to social work code of ethics.
- Advocacy and social justice skills.
- Clear, concise, and effective written and oral communication skills in English and Kiswahili.
