Verst Carbon Limited is recruiting short-term consultants and field personnel for a nature-based project in Kenya. These are part-time, assignment-based engagements, with roles expected to commence at various points between September and December 2026

6. Socio-Economic & Safeguards Officers

Role Overview: The Socio-Economic Officer ensures the project adheres to the "Do No Harm" principle, respecting the rights of local communities and maximizing social benefits.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Stakeholder Mapping: Identify and map all relevant stakeholders, including indigenous peoples, local communities, and government entities with tenure rights.
  • FPIC Implementation: Lead the implementation of Free, Prior, and Informed Consent (FPIC) processes, ensuring communities understand project risks and benefits before engagement.
  • Livelihood Assessments: Conduct baseline socio-economic surveys to understand local livelihoods, poverty levels, and dependency on forest/marine resources.
  • Grievance Redress: Establish and manage a Grievance Redress Mechanism (GRM) to address community concerns and conflicts throughout the project cycle.
  • Benefit-Sharing: Assist in the design and monitoring of benefit-sharing arrangements and alternative livelihood programs (e.g., agroforestry, aquaculture).
  • Risk Monitoring: Identify and monitor social and environmental risks, escalating issues to the Safeguards Manager as necessary.
