Job Summary

Are you a rising creative talent ready to take your visual storytelling to the next level? Aga Khan University (AKU) is seeking a Multimedia Specialist to join our team in Kenya. This is a high impact, hands-on role designed for a storyteller who doesn't just manage content but crafts it – someone who can identify a powerful narrative, capture it with cinematic flair, and piece it together into a compelling digital experience.

As the Multimedia Specialist, you will be the primary engine for our visual content. You will be responsible for the end-to-end production of high-quality video and photo assets that amplify AKU’s impact, supporting our global communications strategy and social development initiatives.

Responsibilities or duties

  • Lead all stages of video creation, including concept development, storyboarding, professional camera operation (lighting/audio), and post-production editing.
  • Translate complex institutional milestones and human-interest stories into engaging short-form and long-form visual narratives for local and global audiences.
  • Support and contribute to the department’s annual video production plan aligned with the organization’s priorities.
  • Curate and maintain the organization’s digital library, ensuring all raw and finished assets are catalogued for easy retrieval and future use.
  • Create audience-focused video content that aligns with current trends while maintaining the University’s brand integrity.
  • Provide technical guidance and creative direction to entity communicators to elevate the overall quality of digital content across the organization.

Qualifications or requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in film production, Digital Media, Journalism, Communications, or related field from a recognized university.
  • 3-5 years of proven experience in professional video production, including advanced camera operation and lighting.
  • High proficiency in the Adobe Creative Cloud suite, with expert-level skills in Premiere Pro. Knowledge of After Effects is an added advantage.
  • A strong portfolio or showreel demonstrating a range of video projects and styles, creative framing and video editing.
  • Deep familiarity with professional DSLR/Mirrorless- or camera systems, audio recording hardware and gimbal stabilization.
  • Experience working in complex environments (such as academia or NGOs) where you can navigate diverse stakeholder needs while maintaining a creative edge.
  • Strong scriptwriting and storyboarding skills to complement your visual work
