Specific Tasks and responsibilities:
Under the direct guidance of the Programme Management Officer (Statistician) in the Data Analytics, Statistics and Intelligence Section of the Office of Science of UNEP, the consultant has the responsibility to conduct the following activities:
The mapping and analyses process of data sources on climate change and gender at the national level should focus on available data sources at the national level, including censuses, statistical surveys, administrative records, geospatial data, monitoring systems, scientific research, citizen-generated data and Big data.
The task requires good communication skills and should be carried out in close collaboration with the national focal point in the Tanzania National Bureau of Statistics, as well as through communication with relevant ministries or agencies such as the Ministry of Environment, other environment and climate-change related ministries and agencies, Ministry on social and gender issues,
Non-governmental organizations (NGOs) working on gender issues at the national level, and in contact with relevant experts in the RCO.
Qualifications/special skills
- A bachelor’s degree in economics, statistics, sociology, environmental science, data science, information science, gender studies or another related field is required.
- A master’s degree in the related field is highly desirable.
- At least 2 years of technical experience working with national statistics and data is required.
- Experience in environment, climate change, disaster-related or gender statistics is required.
- Experience working with national statistical offices on data collection/reporting is desirable.

- Collaborate closely with the national focal point in the Tanzania National Bureau of Statistics.
- Communicate with relevant ministries or agencies such as the Ministry of Environment, other environment and climate-change related ministries and agencies, Ministry on social and gender issues.
- Liaise with Non-governmental organizations (NGOs) working on gender issues at the national level.
- Engage with relevant experts in the RCO.
