Responsibilities or duties
Under the direct guidance of the Programme Management Officer (Statistician) in the Data Analytics, Statistics and Intelligence Section of the Office of Science of UNEP, the consultant has the responsibility to conduct the following activities:
- The mapping and analyses process of data sources on climate change and gender at the national level should focus on available data sources at the national level, including censuses, statistical surveys, administrative records, geospatial data, monitoring systems, scientific research, citizen-generated data and Big data.
- The consultant will systematically review existing environmental economic accounting frameworks and related datasets, identifying tables, variables and data structures relevant for climate change and natural disaster statistics, and assessing their potential for integration with gender-related variables.
- The work will include identifying surveys, administrative records and data systems that contain gender-relevant variables, and assessing their potential for disaggregation by sex, age, household characteristics, geographic area, institutional sector, economic activity, energy or fuel type and other relevant dimensions.
- The task requires good communication skills and should be carried out in close collaboration with the national focal point in the National Administrative Department of Statistics (DANE), as well as through communication with relevant ministries or agencies such as the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development, other environment and climate-related ministries and agencies, institutions responsible for social and gender policies, non-governmental organizations working on gender issues, and relevant experts coordinated through the Resident Coordinator Office.
- The consultant will contribute technical inputs to national discussions and workshops related to data mapping, including supporting the preparation of materials and background analysis for the national data mapping workshop organized under the project.
Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)
A bachelor’s degree in economics, statistics, sociology, environmental science, data science, information science, gender studies or another related field is required. A master’s degree in the related field is highly desirable.
Experience needed
At least 2 years of technical experience working with national statistics and data is required.
Experience in environment, climate change, disaster-related or gender statistics is required.
Experience working with national statistical offices on data collection/reporting is desirable.
