Overview
Role Responsibility

• The purpose of the role is to develop specialist skills whilst retaining the capability of balancing and controlling the whole range of radio productions, both live and pre-recorded.
• To operate studio equipment in order to realise production requirements for transmissions and recordings effectively and efficiently, utilising all of the technical resources available, and to provide a comprehensive point of reference for journalistic and operational staff, including on the day staffing requirements, and dealing with technical queries.
The Ideal Candidate
• Operational experience in live radio is essential, along with fluency in written and spoken English.
• You'll need excellent aural judgement and a proven ability to prioritise in the most demanding on-air situations.
• We're looking for candidates with operational knowledge of professional sound equipment and recent developments in programme making methods.
• You'll have the ability to operate all equipment in a safe manner. Experience of successfully working in teams with an ability to form effective working relationships quickly, to inspire confidence and to influence others is also essential.

Key responsibilities and accountabilities
• Operate audio studio equipment effectively and safely, complying with BBC Safety Regulations. This will include the use of mixing desks, controlling the routing of outside sources.
• Operate playout and production-based systems as well as recording, editing, mixing, and replaying material.
• To work with teams in the studio, offering operational and creative guidance and advice.
• Be responsible for, and able to offer advice on, the technical quality, aural balance and audibility of programme material.
• Provide assistance with forward planning for Production Operations (Audio) and its programme makers.
• Using knowledge of developments within the sound industry to provide advice on production needs and to brief colleagues on developing technical procedures.
• Develop specialist audio skills whilst retaining the ability to balance and control a whole range of radio productions, live and pre-recorded, working to the highest level either with Studio Manager Colleagues or single-handed.
• Identify when problems arise in broadcast-critical systems and be able to work around them where necessary.
• Keep pace with developments in the professional audio field and make use of opportunities at work to take a proactive approach to self-development.
• Provide assistance with technical arrangements which will include forward planning of own outside broadcasts when necessary.
• Regularly liaise with the Operations Manager and other members of the team, discussing and suggesting changes and improvements to the services offered.
