The Onsite System Engineer is responsible for the physical integrity, operational health, and technical administration of the bank's critical onsite server, storage, and virtualization infrastructure. This role ensures the high availability, security, and performance of systems supporting core banking applications through hands-on hardware management, system administration, and proactive maintenance, in strict adherence to the bank's change management and security policies.

• Perform physical installation, racking, cabling, and decommissioning of server and storage hardware.
• Execute diagnostic procedures, component-level troubleshooting, and hardware replacements (HDD, RAM, PSU, controllers) for Dell, HPE, or Lenovo, Xfusion, NetApp, Huawei.
• Conduct physical inventory audits and maintain accurate data center asset documentation.
• Administer enterprise storage arrays (e.g., Huawei, Dell EMC PowerStore, NetApp FAS); tasks include provisioning LUNs, configuring snapshots, replication, and performance tuning.
• Configure and maintain SAN fabric switches (Brocade or Cisco MDS); responsibilities include zoning, ISL management, and firmware updates.
• Monitor storage capacity and performance metrics, providing trend analysis and forecasting.
• Deploy, configure, and manage virtual machines (VMs) on VMware vSphere (vCenter, ESXi) and Oracle VM platforms.
• Manage VM resource allocation (vCPU, vRAM, storage), VM templates, and vSphere clusters (HA, DRS).
• Perform P2V migrations and assist in virtualization platform upgrades and patch application.
• Perform full lifecycle administration of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) servers, including installation, configuration, performance tuning, and troubleshooting.
• Administer legacy Oracle Solaris systems, including zones, ZFS, and service management.
• Implement and validate system hardening standards based on CIS Benchmarks, DISA STIGs, and internal bank security baselines for both Linux and Solaris environments.
• Develop and execute detailed patching plans for operating systems, hypervisors, and firmware.
• Utilize enterprise tools (e.g., Red Hat Satellite, WSUS for Linux, OEM tools) for patch deployment and compliance reporting.
• Adhere to the bank's change management process for all production updates, including pre- and post-patch validation testing.
• Monitor system alerts and performance dashboards from tools such as SolarWinds, Nagios, or vendor-specific management suites.
• Execute scheduled preventive maintenance activities on all assigned hardware, including cleaning, environmental checks, and firmware reviews.
• Perform routine restoration tests of communication (VoIP) and uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems.
• Validate and troubleshoot infrastructure-level backup jobs (e.g., Commvault, Veeam) for virtual and physical systems.
• Provide Tier 2/3 escalation support for issues related to servers, storage, and operating systems, collaborating with the Service Desk and Network Teams.
• Participate in a 24x7 on-call rotation for critical incident response.
• Authority to execute pre-approved standard operating procedures (SOPs) for routine maintenance.
• Authority to implement emergency changes to mitigate critical system outages, with immediate subsequent notification to management and formal post-incident documentation.
• Recommends changes to infrastructure architecture, capacity, and procedures. All non-emergency changes require prior approval via the Change Advisory Board (CAB).
• Maintains detailed and accurate runbooks, system diagrams, and physical layout documents.
• Produces weekly status reports on system health, completed tasks, and pending activities.
• Documents all incidents, changes, and problem resolutions in the IT Service Management (ITSM) tool.

• Proven expertise in: RHEL 7/8/9 system administration (command line proficiency required).
• Oracle Linux

• VMware vSphere 6.x/7x administration
• Enterprise storage administration and SAN switch zoning.
• Scripting for automation (Bash, Python, or PowerShell)
• Hardware troubleshooting in a data center environment.
• In-depth knowledge of infrastructure security principles and hardening techniques.
• Strong understanding of TCP/IP networking fundamentals.
• Industry certifications: RHCE, VCP-DCV, CompTIA Server+, or vendor-specific storage certifications.
• Experience administering Oracle Solaris 10/11.
• Experience with Oracle VM management.
• Previous employment in a financial services or similarly regulated industry (PCI-DSS, FFIEC, SOX).
• Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code tools (Ansible, Terraform).

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related technical field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Minimum of 5 years of direct, hands-on experience in an enterprise infrastructure role.
