Role Purpose:

To ensure compliance with applicable tax laws and regulations, optimize the Group's tax position, manage tax risks, and provide advisory support across all entities. Support the maintenance and development of effective, efficient financial reporting systems to ensure timely, accurate internal and external reporting to relevant stakeholders.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Tax Compliance

  • Prepare and file all direct and indirect tax returns accurately and within statutory timelines.
  • Ensure timely payment of all tax obligations.
  • Maintain compliance with tax legislation across Kenya and Uganda.
  • Monitor changes in tax laws and assess business impact.
  • Coordinate tax audits and investigations.
  • Prepare audit schedules and support documentation.
  • Manage engagements with tax authorities, tax consultants and tax advisors.
  • Effectively manage tax refund claims.

Tax Accounting & Reporting

  • Prepare monthly tax provisions and tax computations.
  • Reconcile all tax-related general ledger accounts and statutory balances.
  • Prepare tax disclosures for annual financial statements.
  • Monitor tax accruals and provisions and recommend adjustments where necessary.
  • Support preparation of deferred tax calculations.

Tax Planning & Risk Management

  • Identify tax planning opportunities and support the implementation of approved tax strategies.
  • Assess tax risks and recommend mitigating actions.
  • Monitor tax exposures and ensure adequate provisioning.
  • Review transactions for tax compliance and efficiency.

Financial Reporting

  • Preparation of financial statements.
  • Reports for statutory bodies including KNBS, CBK & UFAA
  • ERP master data maintenance
  • Support in month and year end close policies and procedures
  • Support the custodianship of the fixed asset governance process and policy, including fixed asset verification and reconciliation activities.

Reporting Deliverables

  • Monthly Tax Compliance Report.
  • Monthly Tax Provision and Tax Risk Report.
  • Monthly Tax Accounts Reconciliation .
  • Tax Audit and Refund Status Reports.
  • Annual Tax Pack supporting statutory financial reporting.
  • Board and Management Tax Updates.
  • Effective Tax Rate Analysis.

Job Requirements

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • A university graduate in a business-related field
  • Qualified Accountant (CPA(K), ACCA, or equivalent)
  • Computer literate with a working knowledge of SAP, spreadsheets, and other MS Office applications.
  • Three years of work experience in tax and financial reporting
  • Strong knowledge of tax laws and regulations, including experience with tax planning and compliance.
  • Sound knowledge of International Reporting Standards (IFRS). Effective communication skills with the ability to collaborate cross-functionally and present financial information to stakeholders.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines effectively.
  • Ability to adapt to change and work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong integrity and ethical standards in handling sensitive financial information and transactions.
