Team Leader – Agrifinance
Job Purpose
The Team Leader – Agrifinance is responsible for leading and supervising a team of Agrifinance Officers to achieve business growth, maintain a high-quality loan portfolio, and deliver excellent customer service. The role focuses on expanding agricultural lending, ensuring prudent credit management, supporting financial inclusion, and promoting sustainable relationships with farmers, agribusinesses, and other stakeholders.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
The Team Leader – Agrifinance will be responsible for:
- Leading, supervising, mentoring, and coaching Agrifinance Officers to achieve individual and team performance targets.
- Developing and implementing strategies to grow the agrifinance loan portfolio while maintaining portfolio quality.
- Identifying, recruiting, and retaining eligible agricultural clients, including farmers, producer groups, cooperatives, agribusinesses, and SMEs.
- Reviewing and recommending loan applications in accordance with the institution's credit policies and delegated authority limits.
- Monitoring loan utilization to ensure borrowed funds are applied for the intended agricultural purposes.
- Conducting regular portfolio reviews and implementing appropriate measures to minimize portfolio at risk (PAR) and loan defaults.
- Coordinating timely loan collections and recovery activities, including follow-up on delinquent accounts.
- Conducting field visits to assess clients' farming activities, business performance, and repayment capacity.
- Providing technical guidance to staff on agricultural value chains, seasonal financing, and agricultural risk management.
- Building and maintaining strong relationships with farmer groups, cooperatives, agribusiness partners, input suppliers, and other key stakeholders.
- Ensuring compliance with internal credit policies, regulatory requirements, and risk management frameworks.
- Preparing and submitting periodic performance, portfolio, and business development reports.
- Supporting the design and implementation of new agrifinance products and services based on customer needs and market trends.
- Identifying opportunities for cross-selling other financial products and services to existing and prospective clients.
- Promoting financial literacy and responsible borrowing among agricultural clients.
- Monitoring market trends, weather patterns, commodity prices, and other factors affecting agricultural lending.
- Ensuring proper documentation, record management, and custody of client files.
- Championing excellent customer service and promptly resolving client concerns.
- Conducting regular performance appraisals and identifying staff training and development needs.
- Performing any other duties assigned by management.
Job Specifications
To qualify for appointment, a candidate must have:
- A Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Agribusiness Management, Agricultural Economics, Finance, Business Administration, Economics, Banking, Commerce, or a related field from a recognized institution.
- At least three (3) years' relevant experience in agricultural finance, microfinance, banking, or credit management, with at least one (1) year in a supervisory role.
- Sound knowledge of agricultural value chains, agricultural production systems, and rural finance.
- Experience in credit appraisal, loan monitoring, portfolio management, and debt recovery.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and digital lending systems.
- A valid driving licence will be an added advantage.
